Rick Barry, 1964-65 Miami

Postby sports-historian » Tue Mar 15, 2016 2:15 am

Hello Everyone; No, this is not the NBA but hope some of you have an interest in college as well. I'm trying to compile Rick Barry's game by game FGS, FTS & PTS for his 1964-65 season at Miami. I have all his points but am missing 8 games of FGS & FTS. But actually only 4, because they are in back to back pairs, so once I get one, I can back into the other. Here are the games I need FGS & FTS (pts listed): 12-8-64 La Salle-27; 12-10-64 Niagara-30; 1-7-65 Jacksonville-45; 1-9-65 Florida St.-17; 1-21-65 Florida-36; 1-23-65 Rollins-46; 2-4-65 Stetson-31; 2-5-65 Florida Southern-33.
Thanks to anyone can help. Roger Meyer

Good News: University of Miami came through and filled in the missing games.

Historian,

Rick Barry's rookie year in the Assn was 65-66. Matt Guokas' was 66-67. Matty sat out a year after transferring from Miami to St. Joe's after his freshman year. Do you know if Rick & Matty played frosh ball together?

Since freshmen weren't eligible for varsity play back then, and many freshmen teams didn't even play a schedule but just scrimmaged, nothing was found on whether Guokas was with Barry in 1961-62.

Rick averaged 28.8 on the freshman team. Interested in whether Matty played with him.

I did find this:

" During his one season at Miami, Guokas, Jr., was actually Rick Barry's roommate."

Mystery solved. I asked Rick. His response:

" He was behind me and was a freshman and then left."
