Baylor played in 73 of the Lakers' 79 games. He scored 20 or more
in all but 3 games. He had 19 on 11/26, 14 on 12/12 and 14 on 2/2.
He had 40 or more in 21 games with an NBA record 71 on 11/15 and games of 51, 52, 56 and 57.

Another piece of Baylor trivia from the Lakers' 61-62 press guide:

"During the 1960-61 season, Baylor managed to lead both teams in a game in the 'Hat Trick', that is, leading the entire game in scoring, rebounds and assists. Baylor accomplished this six times during the season. Only one other player, Oscar Robertson, managed the feat at all, and Oscar did it three times."

Baylor also led the Lakers in assists during 29 games that season despite having both West and Selvy as teammates. In 15 of those games, Baylor led both teams in assists.

John, is there a listing of player splits against every opponent in those old Lakers media guides?

The 1957-58, 58-59 and 59-60 have players games, pts and average vs. each opponent.
Earlier guides and later guides don't

Were there any mentions of rebounds and assists (averages or totals)?

John,

A friend of mine is interested in buying Lakers Press/Media Guides. Before he goes to used book stores and looks on eBay and Amazon, he would like to know if the Guides contain more unofficial stats other than the aforementioned "Hat Trick". The "Hat Trick" stat was mentioned during the 60-61 season in a Long Beach Press-Telegram article by Doug Ives. I wonder if he was the original source of the quoted passage from the 61-62 Press Guide.

Ives also used to publish Wilt's cumulative blocked shot totals during the 72-73 season, one season before the stat became official. Blocks and other unofficial stats were tracked by Lakers fans for Chick Hearn in exchange for tickets. For the season, Wilt led the league with 446 rejections for a 5.44 average. Press-Telegram wasn't the only paper to mention unofficial blocked shot totals. According to an article by Mal Florence in the L.A. Times, Buffalo's Elmore Smith blocked 300 shots (3.95 bpg) in the same season.

DeMarcus Cousins now has a streak of 7 games with at least 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 block.
None of these are sensational totals, but it's pretty easy to have such a streak broken.
Since 1986, these players are found to have as long a streak:
Code: Select all
10  Robinson '91
9   Shaq '00,'94
8   Duncan '04, Robinson '94
7   Cousins '15, Shaq '01(3),'97(2),'95, Olajuwon '93,'88
Shaq has 7 of the other 12. It had been over 10 years (Duncan), until DMC now.
`
36% of all statistics are wrong
