Magic Johnson's NBA All-Star Tour

Postby Robert Bradley » Fri Sep 23, 2011 10:21 pm

Magic Johnson led an all-star team on a tour of Europe in May, 1993. I was wondering if anyone out there had any additional information (or corrections) to fill in some of the gaps -

Roster - Michael Cooper, Alex English, Magic Johnson, Marques Johnson, Kyle Macy, Moses Malone, Bob McAdoo, Kurt Rambis, Oscar Schmidt

7May93 - Turku, Finland - NBA All-Stars 120 Finish National Team 108
9May93 - Helsinki, Finland - NBA All-Stars 119 YMCA of Helsinki 117
11May93 - Den Bosch, Netherlands - Dutch National Team 139 NBA All-Stars 138
12May93 - Den Bosch, Netherlands - NBA All-Stars 142 Dutch National Team 128
13May93 - Ghent, Belgium - Belgium All-Star Team 151 NBA All-Stars 149
15May93? - Braine, Belgium - ???

So I'm assuming there were tours of both Europe and South Americca in 1994?

Anyway, good work filling out the details on both European tours.

Well actually according to official NBA.com profile he made tours to Asia and Australia too.
As I remember he was doing basketball clinics, HIV lessons and kept in playing to stay in form so he decided to return in NBA action.

on your roster for 1995 "Tellis" should be Tellis Frank.

i'm actually somewhat surprised that these games didn't get more mention in the U.S.

I remember an article in "Slam", back in the day, and there was a bit of coverage in the UK's weekly basketball newspaper "Slam Dunk".

??Sep94 - ,England NBA All-Stars 133 - UK All-Stars 78

This game was played on the 2nd September at the London Arena. I'd planned to go, but it coincided with my first day of high school, and there was no way I could've got down to London in time. I'm pretty sure I still have my unused ticket somewhere.

??Sep94 - Olso, Norway NBA All-Stars 158 - Norway 106 (Magic 37)

12th September, Oslo Spectrum.

Although I think scorers listed don't match the final score.
