I recently found another player with 8 personals in a game - Bob Davies of the Rochester Royals on Dec. 4, 1951.
In this game the Royals Joe McNamee was ejected in the first half by referee Ed Boyle for using abusive language.
Later Ray Ragelis injured his ankle. Then Odie Spears, Arnie Johnson and Sam Ranzino fouled out bringing the Royals down to only 5 available players. When Bob Davies committed his 6th foul he was allowed to remain in the game. He subsequently picked up two more fouls.
Davies is the only one to commit 8 fouls in a non-overtime game.
So the record book (if there is any) should now read:
8 - Don Otten, Tri-Cities at Sheboygan, Nov. 24, 1949 (OT)
8 - Bob Davies, Rochester at Philadelphia, Dec. 4, 1951
8 - Lew Hitch, Minneapolis at Syracuse, Jan. 17, 1952 (3OT)
7 - John Hargis, Anderson at Syracuse, Nov. 24, 1949 (5OT)
7 - Rollie Seltz, Anderson at Syracuse, Nov. 24, 1949 (5OT)
7 - Alex Hannum, Syracuse at Boston, Dec. 26, 1950
7 - George Mikan, Minneapolis at Syracuse, Jan. 17, 1952 (3OT)
7 - Cal Bowdler, Atlanta at Portland, Nov. 13, 1999 (referees' error)
By the way, the Tri-Cities-Sheboygan game and Anderson-Syracuse game
were, in fact, both held on the same day!
