Charlie Scott's junior high school coach

Postby mtamada » Sun Sep 09, 2018 1:59 am

In his Hall of Fame speech, Charlie Scott thanked "Ms. Evelyn Jarrett (sp?), my junior high coach and my teacher". I can imagine that many players in elementary school were taught basketball by their teachers, who were often women. But when I was in junior high school, the coaches of the boys' basketball teams were always men. Was it common back then for junior high school coaches (of boys' teams) to be women? Have other male Hall of Famers included women in the list of coaches they thank? (Mothers and aunts don't count; there've been many basketball players who learned hoops from their athletic female relatives.)
