Re: What hasn't been done in basketball analysis?
Net Points ratings https://espnanalytics.com/nba-net-pts have you actually looked at this at all? look at the 2024-25 data. it has an offensive and defensive rating for each player. hard to take this methodology the least bit serious when it shows nikola jokic with a higher defensive rating (67.15)...

Re: What hasn't been done in basketball analysis?
Any conversations with Dean Oliver about his presumably team level factor model / Roboscout? haven't spoken with deano in some time. last i heard he was with the wizards, but now it seems he is with espn. I mentioned simulation, knowing you do that. I don't recall if I did so actively hoping to dra...

Re: What hasn't been done in basketball analysis?
Could try to model games, perhaps at factor level. Simulation? yes. simulation. for 3 decades now. I will: Experienced team analysts, do you think your work was worth 1+ win per season? 10-20 wins or more in a season. you recommend the right player, and that player is signed, stays healthy, and pla...

Chaikin with Heat. Other game simulators. wait a minute... i graduated from case institute of technology (case western reserve university) in 1981, same school as donald knuth, actually played on the school basketball team (spartans, under coach bill sudeck), created an nba computer game simulation...

Re: 22-23 MVP Tracker
you mean like the fact that he's not much of a defender, that denver is currently the 4th worst team in the league defensively, that they allow a league 5th highest 2pt FG%? like those reasons? It will be amusing to read and watch the reasons that the Joker should not be MVP again

Re: FT/ FGA level in 2022 Finals
Not surprising as the ratio of FTA/FGA in the regular season this past season (2021-22) and the previous season (2020-21) was the lowest in some 40+ seasons: year--FGA/100poss--FTA/100poss 7778-------85.6-------26.2 8788-------86.4-------28.7 9798-------86.4-------28.5 0708-------86.8-------26.6 141...

Re: eWins 2022
Their defenses have elite shot-blocking. Does this allow them the opportunity to swarm the 3-pt line and discourage 3's, knowing they have a shot blocker behind them? currently 3 of the best 4 best shot blocking teams in the league are allowing higher than league average 3pt FG% shooting (phi, mem,...

Re: eWins 2022
stats.nba.com currently (12-17-2021) shows that among the 17 Cs to have faced 300+ FGAs on defense jokic is currently allowing the highest/worst FG% at 51.8%. the Cs allowing the lowest FG%s are doing so in the 38%-39% FG% range (and the league average FG% is 45%)... and among the 31 Cs with 10+ gam...

Re: eWins 2022
Are you saying that if Jokic is a great passer, his team should therefore be the best shooting team in the league? The normal question here is: how much better do they shoot with him on the floor than without him? If they shoot better when he is on the floor are you saying that is solely due to him...

Re: eWins 2022
BPM really loves Jokic over Gobert, by 9.8 pts/100 poss... so a team with Jokic should be 6.6 pts/G better than with Gobert. This should result in about 14 more wins in 82 games... so a utah team with jokic instead of gobert would be on pace to, what, some 60+14=72 wins or 70+ 14 = 80+ wins?... and...

Re: eWins 2022
Based on their W-L records and average per game point differentials, Utah is on pace for some 60-70 wins, Denver for 42-43 wins. If Gobert had been playing for Denver all season and Jokic for Utah, and if supposedly Jokic was the better player, as eWins and BPM appear to be saying, what would the pr...

Re: eWins 2022
Denver is 13-13 with an average per game point differential of 0.0 pts/g. Utah is 19-7 with an average per game point differential of +11.1 pts/g. Utah is the better defensive team, and has a far better ORtg as a team than Denver does. So what does Jokic having a BPM 3 times better than Gobert tell ...
