Re: 2019 playoffs, West round 1

Korver's battling a knee injury of some sort, been surprised to see him at all, even slower than normal. Mitchell/Royce/Ingles/Crowder/Gobert is the lineup I want to see. Strong in fairly limited RS minutes (+20.5 in 102 minutes -6th most). Theoretically works similarly with Favors (terrible, but on...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

Did you just try to minimize squared error the first time around? If you're looking to reign in outliers you could look at raising your p in your L^p norm minimization? Not sure how much that'd change your average error or how well it'd work, but worth looking into.

Re: 2019 playoffs, West round 1

Let us never again speak of the 'defense' Utah played last night. As a Jazz fan I pray to all things holy I don't have to see it again this series.

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

I'm not sure how position would be implemented reliably from the box score, height/weight or what? It is relatively easy to determine position strictly from the box score. No, height/weight would not be included. It seems kinda circular at that point. Not to say it wouldn't work. Would you lean tow...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

When we say 'box-score' that means min/pts/oreb/dreb/ast/stl/blk/tov/pf along with shooting %'s? What size sample are you going for maximum 'accuracy' on? Ranging from single game to full season(more?)? Should the other still be weighted? Also, the 5yr RAPM looks really nice! I love Korver at near o...

Re: 2018-19 team win projection contest

I'd really like to eke out an edge over Pelton, always feels good to finish ahead of a professional :D

Re: Thunder

Not sure they could get any significant return for Westbrook/Adams (don't think they seriously consider moving Westbrook). I'd classify them as a minor disappointment going into the playoffs, but correctable if they can upset or even just push a serious contender. For the future the fixes seem prett...

Re: 2019 Draft

I can see the size/athleticism comparison for Clarke/Gordon, but in roles I think they're fairly different. I don't remember Gordon as a prospect really, but Clarke has a defensive feel that's pretty elite.

Re: 2019 Draft

I've never tried to put together an actual draft model, but just off eye test and a glance at the stats I'd have him 2nd or 3rd in the last decade or so. AD #1 and debating with Luka.

Re: 2019 Draft

Higher/mid lotto seems like a great spot to look for trade downs this season. Most of the guys I'm kind of liking in this draft are looking like they'll go mid-first or later. I'll have to put together at least a lottos worth of guys sometimes. Zion really is something though, pretty dang unique pla...

Pau is the first other guy to come to mind.

Vince has been almost shockingly effective at 42.

Re: 2018-19 team win projection contest

Mmkay, so Pacers wins and Grizzlies losses, I can get behind it.

Overall quite happy with how the season has gone in terms of these, held steady with the front pack and that's all you can really ask for. Would like to pull it out over Pelton

Re: 2018-19 team win projection contest

Last year at this time, eminence was still .66 off the lead. A few weeks earlier, it was twice that much. I don't remember a big mid-season tidal change in the NBA. Just a bunch of unrelated individual teams went his way. Nobody ever came back from 1-3 in the Finals, until LeBron- Kyrie, et al. I f...
