Re: 2019 Draft

I am planning on looking closer at Hayes. Samanic, Bone, Edwards, Cam Johnson, Bazley.

I am not saying they are the best. Just worth knowing better.

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

Rockets parting with Bzeldik shortly after he indicated uncertainty about coming back doesnt surprise me. But was it a decision by Morey, the owner or both? Either way it is probably a step downwards.

Re: 2019 Draft

Morant is #2? That seems likely. Will he prove to be the 2nd best pro over the first part of his career or the whole thing? It would not surprise if he is not and it may not be close by RPM and BPM. I am not sure who will be 2nd best. Might be a frontline player. GMs seem to get too excited about pe...

Re: 2019 playoffs

Sixers, Nuggets, Celtics and others defeated. Perhaps too young. By historical data that appeared to be the case. Still remains to see who wins this title. Some of those still standing and recently departed might be closer to or in the traditional weighted average age pocket for title winners next s...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

These are not the classic 4 Factors but it would be good to regularly offer these 4 components (or some other variation) for GmBPM2 and season level BPM2. Maybe BRef could also offer BPM2 on its splits page. More detail, less case that it is a blackbox hard to interpret. If BPM2 components were divi...

Moving forward with Bulls

I'd complete redo their PG and Center positions. SG Lavine, backed up by Dunn and / or somebody new. SF Porter, backed up Lavine and / or somebody new. PF Markannen, backed by Carter. They'll give Dunn some time at PG and Carter time at C. I guess try it but I am not enthusiastic about either use. I...

Re: 2019 Draft

Barrett comparison: Young Jimmy Butler on offense, but with just average defensive skill & effort (outside rebounding)?

Re: 2019 Draft

I am not buying a real high ceiling for Barrett. I don't know a lot but what I do see leads my gut to think that the optimistic ceiling projections are too high or way too high. Harden? Don't think that should be suggested.

Re: What went wrong for Rockets

In the first round the Rockets were fine thru at least the 9th man. Against the Warriors it probably should have been 7 most games or at least fewer minutes for some of the players not doing well and team not doing well with them on court. I suggested shortening rotation after about game 2. They pla...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

Steal worth 9 times what an offensive rebound is worth in GmBPM2? I'd like to hear the justification of that. Both earn the ball. Twice as much? That might be justified. Defensive rebounds worth twice as much as offensive rebounds? Since when? I remember the fuss folks made when a metric-maker claim...

Re: 2019 playoffs

With the final game incorporated, they rank 6th on playoff efg% allowed. A bit better than average. Before game 7's very poor efg% for Blazers, it was not as good. On average opponent team efg% was down .018. Nuggets did a bit better. So instead of saying "pretty average", I could have said a bit be...

Re: What went wrong for Rockets

What gets learned or improved if you just say that? If you say that, are you saying that there were no errors made or changes needed in the 10 main areas I mentioned? You can say that and what I said, if you think it adds balance; but cropping out what I mentioned would in my mind ignore mistakes an...

Re: 2019 playoffs

Nuggets in playoffs had a shot distribution well below average on Moreyball and only an average efg%. They didn't shoot many FTs. Shot defense was pretty average. They didn't force turnovers or defense rebound well. Overall the defense was poor. Their main strengths were not turning it over and offe...

Re: 2019 playoffs

The general issues for the Sixers in playoffs were too many own turnovers and fouls.
