Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Wes Edens talking about Budenholzer's system: "I think that it’s had great success in the past and let’s hope it has great success here.” It had great success for 1 regular season and moderate success in 1 playoffs. Outside of that, ok to not. Outside of the strong season, the system averaged 22nd o...

TWolves advice

Hey Thibs, Layden and / or Taylor, Here is one approach: Butler & Dieng to Nets for Crabbe, Carroll & something else. Wiggins to Toronto for JVal. and something else. Move KAT to PF (at least some of the time). And another: Butler, Dieng, Teague for Dragic, Richardson, Olynyk. Or: Butler & Teague fo...

Re: Estimated non boxscore RPM value

Minutes adjusted for "overall team strength".... sounds good initially. Can an adjustment for position strength take it further? Position broadly defined by PG or G, Wing or Forward, Big or C groupings. But are you ok with the team quality adjustment changing the raw data? A standard adjustment may ...

Re: Estimated non boxscore RPM value

Or you could put a good boxscore guy in less negative / more constructive non-boxscore context. To be clear, all these lists are the non-boxscore residuals right? A label to that effect might be good. Would be interested in seeing full league database, perhaps using BPM or PIPM. PER and WS/48 are pe...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

My skeptical, prove it take: https://mobile.twitter.com/bballstrategy/status/1042190535274967041?p=v It looks like the Bucks GM search. Too cocky about going for greatness, lots of procedural show, too indecisive and then a rushed unimpressive cover up ending. It might work out but it doesn't appear...

Re: Team 1st round draft performance by VORP to date

Last season 18 players had a a negative VORP while playing 1500 plus minutes. Only 3 played in playoffs, none won a series. Jamal Crawford, Bryn Forbes and Andrew Wiggins.

Plus 1 was about the median for these main rotation players.

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Lee Jenkins to Clippers is probably about the campaign for Kawhi. How important is story telling? Especially player puff story telling? It is not important to me as a reader but will it be helpful for recruiting? Seems nebulous. Maybe it helps with certain cases. I'd think this development would irk...

Re: Team 1st round draft performance by VORP to date

Even this seemingly lousy level of pick to performance correlation using VORP is aided by the tendency to play 1st rounders more {maybe more than they deserve) and to give them more opportunities to have impact. No one in last 10 years has been allowed to accumulate much negative VORP (Mudiay may be...

For 2017 first round the correlation between draft pick with VORP to date (with correlation score reversed to recognize "higher"draft picks have a lower draft number) was -.085. Re: 2018-19 season commentary

If I was advising Blazers, I'd explore trading McCollum. I'd check with Hornets to see if they'd take McCollum for Lamb, MKG and Hernangomez. Who do you think says no?

5 days to opening of training camp and another report that Doncic is not in great NBA shape. A full 13 weeks after his last competitive game.

Beverley a or the top PG target for Suns? Perhaps. Because they are unlikely to get the other players mentioned.

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

He is 65 and it may just be that he is just tired of it and / or wants to focus on family.

Or perhaps he wanted to go out o a high and not chance next season being lesser. Or maybe he wanted an extension and raise.

It was a surprise though.
