Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Should mention to folks at BRef. They have a contact form. Something or several things are wrong with their data. They may be counting possessions differently for team pace and player stats. Or there is a variance in offensive and defensive possessions at team or player level. Or maybe they are goin...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

He certainly isn't shy and he isn't getting ignored or blocked. Putting aside the fickle RPM for a moment, he has generally been near neutral on raw on the court team plus minus and is there now. His on / off is better now that awful Dirk is affecting it but it is still negative. Mavs are way way be...

Doncic back up to plus 2? That is a pretty big and quick bounce since 4 days ago...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Only about 15% of the guys in that list play PF. Most PFs are over 6'8 and therefore not in the comparison. He doesn't have an easily defined or perfect peer group for overall comparison. His role is heightened above average level on scoring, passing and rebounding. Players of that size are worse th...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Cutting backs on the turnovers on average is a big deal. But 5 last night pulled him below 1 point / possession used again. It appears he has cut way back on the long twos as well (or there is / was a glitch in the data). Was a lot higher the last time I checked. Just 1 non paint 2 pt attempt last n...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

At factor level Knicks this season are better at 3 on offense, only 1 on defense compared to last season. Fizdale's Griz were split evenly on offensive & defensive factor change in first year after hire. How much time will he get to improve things? Assume Mills / Perry will give him time since they ...

Re: Podcasts

What topics do people want to hear covered on an analytics podcast? Lineup analysis. Methods. Specific teams. Lineup matchup analysis. League trends. Non Moreyball by prominent teams. Sophomore slump of Donovan Mitchell. Other cases and outcomes. Which outcome seems more likely? Are there statistica...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Knicks in all minutes this season about 2 points worse / 100 possession than they were last season when Porzingis (and most of the other starters) were off the court. About 1 pt better on offense, 3 pts worse on defense.

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA

On the best offensive players category page if you use 700 minute and plus 1.5 on Combo Offensive Plus Minus (the availability of which I want to praise), there are 36 such players. On CDPM, 16 above 1.5. On overall CPM, 39 are over plus 2. I dunno if it is me but these numbers seemed to change mome...

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA

The category pages have a few customizable filters and positions but it would be even more excellent if there were more filter options (discrete stats, demographics, salary) and perhaps the ability to pull-up the discrete stats on a page for all those who qualify. It would also be nice to pre-calcul...

Re: Notes about RPM estimates

After a long rise to about plus 2 Doncic's RPM estimate has fallen back to plus 0.28. The terrible overall team performance in last few weeks (probably including Doncic's contribution) has cancelled out the strong team & Doncic performance in the few weeks before that. So the young star or expected ...

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA

Enhancements are good. Would you consider adding actual raw plus minus for the team lineups (versatile and closers and young core is enough have data)? A step beyond that would be to calculate projected lineup data for the team discrete stats and compare that to actual data too (showing actual - pro...

Re: 2018-19 season commentary

Jerry West is the only player in top 25 currently for NBA / ABA career scoring who wasn't at least 6-5. That eventually will change. Will 5 or more smaller guys make the top 25 in future? I assume so. Harden, Westbrook, Curry. Maybe Irving, Lillard, possibly Oladipo and other younger guys in league ...

Re: Hey Coach/GM

I've thought that Jeremy Lamb has not been pushed hard enough WITH OPPORTUNITY in his career. I am not saying he has earned it. He doesn't look like he deserves it on top of not delivering enough. BUT I want to see what happens when you say: GO. TAKE 20-25 shots per game the next 10 games. See what ...

Re: Hey Coach/GM

Hornets are a really average team by record, SRS, most of the four factors, the shot distribution. Not turning the ball over and not fouling much are new strengths. Nice but not as impactful as some other bigger things. Age is slightly above average, They are not really a young team, though they are...
