Re: 2012 predictions

Any update on these recently? I got in the habit of checking in on them every few days, and I'm having withdrawals (lol). Thanks in advance if Mike G. gets a chance to post an update...

Re: Rockets

Thanks Crow. Injury lists I saw didn't mention anything, but he was getting 0's during the b2b where they really needed minutes off the bench. Kept googling and couldn't find any mentions of it. Odd for a slam dunk contest guy to fall off the media radar like that. Looks like he's seeing action toni...

Re: Rockets

Crow, what's up with Budinger? Noticed he's been getting 0 minutes in some games of late.

Re: STICKY -- Basketball Statistics Blogs

Not sure if it will qualify as a "good" basketball blog or not. But, I've re-booted a blog I was doing in the past for the rest of basketball. Will be the same kind of stuff some of you read last year at hoopdata. But, with more college stuff amidst March Madness. I typically read and reac...

Re: Power Ranking

Spurs hurt badly in the recent math with their tank job at Portland. That was -40. They were at +6.5 in the other five games in the sample...and that whole sample was on the road because it's the annual rodeo trip. Final six games was more of a continuation of two stellar six-packs...with the tank j...

Re: BPI team ranking system

Hopefully falling to #243 Rhode Island will knock Saint Louis out of the top dozen...quite the mystery team given the differences of opinion on them. Ugly result there...

Records Exluding Teams at .333 or worse at ASB

Updating the numbers from mini-discussions that have popped up in a few threads. These are W-L records at the ASB excluding games against the seven poor teams who are currently at .333 or worse for the season. Helps adjust for schedule imbalances that may have caused a few misreads this year on vari...

Never would have guessed when this thread started that Houston and Philly would both head into the ASB with the same record (20-14)...

Re: Power Ranking

Evan, those struck my eye as the kind of range sharps would have right now...with a few differences here and there on certain teams. Decided to line up my estimates of the market with that range. My estimates are in parenthesis. Looks like the market (or a misread from me on the market) has the wors...

Re: Power Ranking

Agree with you Evan about margin caps. Maybe there's a creative way to deal with East/West imbalance too. Just checked ESPN's standing page...West is 85-60 vs. the East this year. Miami and Chicago are 13-5 vs. West, everyone else in the East is 47-80. Only four Western teams have losing records vs....

Re: Power Ranking

Yeah, but...the market has badly misread those situations. Philly is now 5-10-1 ATS vs. teams at .500 or better (Knicks just moved up to .500, which adds another straight up loss and non-cover to the category for Philly). San Antonio 15-5 ATS vs. teams at .500 or better. Versus quality...it's a mism...

Re: Power Ranking

Evan, any concerns about the ratings given that Philadelphia is 6-9 against teams at .500 or better, while San Antonio is 15-5...and the Spurs won at Philly, winning every quarter? (Plus, Philly has played a home heavy schedule, while Spurs have more road games...don't have time at the moment to see...

Re: Power Ranking

Evan, would you have Philly over SA if they had faced the same schedule in your methodology? That's an interesting test for me because I watched the Spurs beat them in Philly, winning every quarter...during the stretch where Philly was also losing at home to Dallas and the LA Clippers.

Re: Power Ranking

Mike G., can't you do the same thing with Chicago? Using ESPN's expanded standings page: Games decided by 3 or less: Chicago 3-0 OKC 4-2 Chicago's played a much softer schedule than OKC, with 20 games vs. below .500 teams instead of just 12 for OKC. Games vs. .500 or better: Chicago 7-6 OKC 13-5 Whe...
