That could be because teams use this strategy when they are already losing.rlee wrote:Clips are 14-0 in games in which he has attempted 14 or more FTs

Re: Using Spark to calculate RAPM
I was curious how many nodes you had in the cluster. Also, in this example what is the performance when running the code on a single node versus against the whole cluster? I think this is good demonstration for organizations, but I agree that using the machine learning labs on AWS or Azure is a good...

What to add to LRMC?
I am currently taking a data science class at UW and one of my assignments is to find a new data set to add to the LRMC model. I was wondering if anyone on here has done much work with the model and has any suggestions as to what would be some other good publicly available datasets I could add to th...

Re: Basketball (or NBA only) analytic conference?
There is already a conference in Vegas during summer league: http://www.sportsmanagementworldwide.co ... conference. Not necessarily analytics focused though...

Re: Anyone Else Disappointed with Sloan Agenda?
Out of curiosity, nileriver, what are the presentations of the past that you feel, quality equivalent, are missing this year? The offerings seem of a piece from past conferences. I won't be going, but I just took occasion to watch last year's analytics panel, and it was pretty good - at least in te...

Anyone Else Disappointed with Sloan Agenda?
I was wondering if anyone else is disappointed with the presentations planned for the Sloan conference. There are a couple of sessions I am looking forward to, but overall I am not sure how much I will get out of attending the conference this year.

I know that Microsoft has been working on natural language processing for SQL Server. Here is an example for Power BI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBXYNn4x0jA.

Re: Heisler on analytics
I have one large issue with what he said. He acts as if every "stats" guy comes to the same conclusion in relation to player evaluation. How do we know how the analytics department from every team evaluates a player? I would hope they are doing evaluations on how well a player would fit in...

Re: Big Data
This quote is from wikipedia, so it isn't the most reliable, but it is an accurate description of what big data is: The term "Big Data" was coined by Haseeb Budhani, presently founder and CEO of BubblewrApp, in 2008 while at Infineta Systems.[citation needed] "Big Data" caught on...

Re: Big Data
Interesting article. However, it is starting to bother me that people are just throwing the term "big data" around. Even though SportVU contains a lot of information, it should not be considered "big data." It seems that because the data sets that most are used to in the world of...

Re: Play-by-Play Data of Entire NBA Season as .csv Files
Hi. Not sure where else you can get this information without doing web scraping (which I recommend). Happy to do the web scrapping, but where can we find this information ? I cannot find any play by play providers telling us who is starting each quarter (leaving the court at the end of each quarter...

Re: Play-by-Play Data of Entire NBA Season as .csv Files
You can purchase it here: http://downloads.nbastuffer.com/ . I will warn you that there are definitely mistakes in the data. My biggest problem with it has been who is on the court. Not sure where else you can get this information without doing web scraping (which I recommend). Hopefully other have...
