Re: College Analytics
As Dan said above, I don't know how much that would really help. A lot of teams (including us) use lineup combinations and look at our oppositions as well. The sample sizes aren't big for what we look at, but might provide some clarity on certain things (playing big/small, fast/slow, man/zone, etc.).

Re: Looking for some input
No question. We aren't necessarily looking to control those things. Just looking for something where we can basically monitor activity/effort on the defensive end. If we contest 90% of 3pt shots and they shoot 45% from behind the arc, we will live with a team having a good shooting night. But, conte...

Re: Looking for some input
Players love to look at numbers and it can be used as a tool to get them better understand their responsibilities. If we have a number that we are shooting for (i.e. 80% of shots contested) and then we can look to see who ranked where and how the other team scored it provides us with more informatio...

Re: Looking for some input
Thank you for the reply. We can have a few people tracking data in games (and even practices if need be) similar to what I mentioned. We do track training performance throughout the year and adjust accordingly as the year goes on. I don't think we are looking to just change the results based on what...

Looking for some input
Looking to help improve efficiency is the goal for our team on both sides of the ball (obviously). Looking for ideas in going about calculating it - not so much focused on the results per say, but what increases our chances of success. I.e. not looking to just eFG%, PPP, or TS% for our defensive met...

Re: FG% compared to FT%
I don't think you can quantify that, to be honest. There are too many factors in place. If you are a non-shooter it lowers the FG% of everyone else around you because of the allowance it gives the defender to play help defense. Similarly if you have a great shooter who camps out in the corner the ot...

Re: Adjusting defense by using offensive results?
Other things from a coaching perspective that I like is OReb% compared to Fastbreak points allowed and the like.

Re: If both teams get roughly the same number of possessions
Sounds likes a simple solution. Come to an agreement on what a "possession" is, whether you 100% buy it or not. Then show points per possession in the scenario. Then show him how 100 points in 90 possessions is much different than 98 points in 80 possessions or something along those lines....

Re: If both teams get roughly the same number of possessions
From a coaching standpoint, offensive rebounding from another team can limit your offensive effectiveness (thereby making their defense better). We were a great transition team on offense and teams that crashed the glass on us required us to focus more on our box outs than breaking out in transition...

Re: If Cavs want to win a ring, quickest route is trading Ky
Well to make that statement, who else values him and what would they be willing to give up?
I for one wouldn't mind a 3-Way deal with the Celtics moving Rondo, getting Kyrie, another team getting Rondo with the Cavs getting draft picks and some young pieces.

Re: If Cavs want to win a ring, quickest route is trading Ky
Pretty unfair to him at this point, IMO. Hasn't really had anything around him to take the focus off. What would they get in return? And it is a tough spot to bring Free Agents into as well. If they can get growth from their youth, hit on a pick, and convince someone to play with Kyrie I think that ...
