Re: Heisler on analytics
Projecting the development of 18 and 19 year olds is tough. Because somebody has potential, doesn't mean they will realize it. Just because somebody plays well over 30 games, doesn't mean they will over the course of 82 games.

Re: So Player Tracking
I think it's cool... I am just trying to figure out what kind of information teams would value that isn't captured in the data, or isn't captured explicitly in the data.... I had a few individual research projects that are pointless to do now.... So in some ways I feel like I am at square one with d...

Re: Basketball Operations Analytics Jobs at the NBA!!!
I'm sure you know this, and I certainly can't defend their draft picks, BUT.... Often times the best college basketball player doesn't equate to being a good pro player. Do you have a model that correlates college basketball to success in the NBA? It's in the works.... That being said - there is de...

NCAA to NBA Projections
After all that - I'm probably the last guy to answer someone on how to land an NBA gig. My one time emailing a team - Mark Cuban told me he already had an analytics guy (Roland Beech - I think he was active here at one time) and that he didn't follow college basketball and had no interest. I was ju...

Re: Looking for volunteers for NBA Game Tracking
Seems like an interesting idea... Just curious what the incentive is for somebody to track for you? I mean, I assume you are going to publish the results or something, correct?

Re: Basketball Operations Analytics Jobs at the NBA!!!
When I was in college, I applied for all NBA internships I could find, and didn't even get an interview.... Despite being as qualified as others whom I have met who did get interviews and internships. The main difference was a combination of stupid political stuff, and/or bad luck. Now I am nearly ...

Re: Basketball Operations Analytics Jobs at the NBA!!!
I really, really wish I had some Excel skills. I'd love to do this sort of thing. I guess I'll have to train myself in it, so the next time such an opportunity comes along, I'll feel like I can give it a shot. I feel like the only people who get shots at those sorts of things are: 1) IVY League (or...

Re: Predictions 2013-14
Pelton has [Denver] winning 44 games instead of 52 Does he say why they should be 13 games worse this year? Andre Miller is 37 y.o., and the rest are under 30. With the minutes I've projected, the team 'age' is 26.3 -- about half a year younger than last season's NBA avg. So youth seems to be on th...

Re: Predictions 2013-14
Lucas is going to start at the point, Machado is going to play significant minutes too probably, especially if Burke is out for a while Jefferson has been playing more like 20 mins/game in the preseason, so you have to figure he will have significant minutes as long as he stays healthy. Lucas, thro...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.
so instead of judging him on the 1000+ regular season games he played, you are going to evaluate him based on his 64 playoff games? With PER, there are so many flaws. It's a metric that values points and rebounds the most.... : 1) steals weren't recorded until Wilkens last 2 seasons, 2) Assists aren...
