Re: Wizards
They had the league's worst bench last season. Brooks leaned heavy on the starters out of necessity. Their core 3-man group is Wall, Beal and Porter. But, Morris is important, not because he's good (he's not), but because what they have behind him is so bad. They should get a test there early since ...

Re: Improved players 2016-17
I wrote something for Bullets Forever about Gortat's decline. What I found was that his dip in overall production is mostly about opportunities. His usage is at a career low. In the tracking data, his touches are down and his opportunities are down in every play type that gets tracked, except put-ba...

Re: 2017 stars and historic statistical similars
Out of curiosity, what similars do you get for Otto Porter? Bradley Beal?

Re: one halfcourt dribble layup
Very cool. When I went 5-Star many years ago, we actually worked on this exact thing -- getting from mid-court to the rim with one dribble. It wasn't easy!

Re: APBR-DraftExpress 2016 NBA Draft Project
Didn't have time to get to every player, and with work travel and an article deadline looming...this is as far as I'm going to get before the draft. Ben Simmons Brice Johnson Brandon Ingram Denzel Valentine Jakob Poeltl Chinanu Onuaku Matt Costello Jamal Murray Deyonta Davis Tyler Ulis Derrick Jones...

Re: APBR-DraftExpress 2016 NBA Draft Project
Has anyone seen Thomas Walkup play? He's older and he played against weaker competition, but was very productive. Looks like he'll go undrafted. Might be a nice UdFA for someone. Thomas Walkup is an exceptional player. I watched him a few times last season - including every minute his stand out pla...

Re: APBR-DraftExpress 2016 NBA Draft Project
I'm working my way through this year's draft class. This is 4th or 5th season I've analyzed players (college only -- I haven't had time to dig into international players). This year I'm seeing big differences between where players rate in my analysis and where they're showing up in the various mock ...

Re: Anybody working on any exciting projects for the fall?
Is anyone interested in using BPM, WS/48, PER, or any other purely boxscore metric to predict the season's wins? Does anyone want to put up a credible/debatable minutes projection that all prognosticators could then use? Projecting minutes is the biggest problem I have doing preseason projections l...

Re: How would you mitigate tanking?
Eliminate weighting so that there's no reward for having a worse record. Include in the draft lottery each of the teams that lose in the first round of the playoffs. In this way, there's zero incentive to tank in the regular season. Go 0-82 and you still have just a 1-in-22 shot at getting the top ...

It's kinda comical in spots too. Altering his rankings to elevate Kevin Seraphin, for example.

Re: What should the role of the big man be in today's league
This seems kind of like one of those "How long should a person's legs be?" questions. The role of a big man should be dictated by his skills. There's still plenty of room for bigs to do "traditional" big man work like rebounding, protecting the rim, setting screens, etc. There's ...

Re: Player Motion
Late in my playing career (pickup ball and church league career) I'd intentionally stand still for several seconds, and then make a cut as soon as my defender turned his head. And I'd get a layup or an open three, and my defender's teammates would be cussing him for losing track of the old guy who c...

Re: Predictions 2014-2015
I'm hoping to get projections done for the league. My approach is a little labor intensive because I suck at programming.
Projecting minutes is a pain.
