Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
Is there a way to squeeze Euro guys into the model? I'd be really interested to see how Nurkic, Saric, and Capela measure up with various SOS's (say +10, +15, and +20 if we are measuring in terms of SRS). I know it's not the best form of analysis since it's a diff game in Europe, but I suspect Nurki...

Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
I agree that is the underlying logic. The correlations I got could be that stars get more technicals because they have the sense of entitlement of being an NBA star, so those correlations may have some selection bias. I'm trying to do a prospect analysis here, and just looked at 2001-2007 I separate...

Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
so i just posted on my blog about how frequent technical fouls correlate positively with advanceds stats in the NBA, especially on defense: http://deanondraft.com/2014/02/10/checking-the-stats-to-assess-marcus-smarts/ i don't know how much you can do with this, but if you want to try to play around ...

Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
I think VJL's point makes a lot of sense and it's something I had been considering ever since THJ has been so much better than expected. On a scale of 1-11 Stauskas has to be at least a 10. He can improve his FT% and likely will, but he's shooting 44% from 3 in college. It's not like he's going to s...

Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
I have trouble understanding Gordon's ORAPM projection as well. Part of it is that because eFG translates so terribly between leagues the offensive model doesn't have a ton to work with. That makes age really stand out. Add a good offensive rebound rate, decent assists, and probably more usage than...

Re: 2014 Draft Projection Models
Cool stuff. I had been operating under the assumption that steal rate for a team like Syracuse is worthless, nice to see it confirmed. One of your model's projections that I can't wrap my mind around is Aaron Gordon projecting to have a +1.6 oRAPM. Can you elaborate on how that's even possible given...
