Re: 2017 draft analytics

Why in the world would Chicago want IT? He's the same age (maybe older?) as Butler...if you're going to rebuild, you do it around youth. That would be an insane trade.

Re: Career Advice

From what I've seen the best path to an NBA job is to start writing a blog and tweeting. Build your brand. Good luck!

Re: 2017 draft analytics

I'd be higher on Jackson if he could be a starting 4 like Draymond, but I'm not sure he is long or strong enough to move up a position. Guys who can't shoot are just super risky picks to me to take that high. MKG had so many great intangible assets, but his shooting is still preventing him from bein...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

I like Swanigan. I think the main knock on him is lack of athleticism/ability to play above the rim. But he has got in a lot better shape year over year, and I think that's a positive. Draymond Green would not be the player he has become if he didn't get into great shape. So to me a guy like Swaniga...

Might be interesting to try the Huber loss:

Re: 2016-17 Team Win Projection Contest / Discussion

Never really feel like I learn much from these predictions since a) the totals are fairly close to each other and b) minutes projections could make a significant difference. Would be interested to see how everyone's predictions would work as retrodictions given that we now know minutes played for ev...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

Fultz shot 65% on free throws. It's a big red flag, if people are expecting him to be some kind of elite (or even very good) 3pt shooter. I think people should consider what Fultz will be if he's, say, a 34% 3pt shooter. Is he still a #1 pick in that scenario (which I think is closer to an eventuali...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

As hyped as this class is -- I still feel he's the 'default #1' pick vs, OMG, he's the #1 pick! For me, such draft examples would be: Shaq, Webber, Iverson, Duncan, Brand, Yao, LeBron, Rose, Wall, Kyrie, AD, Towns. I only mention that as so many "draft folks" say Ball is surefire HOFer as in the be...

Re: Best Point Guard of 2016-17?

poll is from the start of the season, not a reflection on the year. people may have voted throughout, but regardless, i don't think the results are reflective of whom people would for vote now. But wait, after 2 consecutive MVP's and arguably the most dominant offensive season in NBA history, Steph...

Re: Best Point Guard of 2016-17?

How the hell is CP getting all these votes? Come on guys, I know everyone here likes numbers. I get that, but would anyone seriously prefer CP3 over Steph or Harden or Russ on their team this season?

Re: EZPM? Tweaks?

I haven't worked on it in at least a few years, and have not calculated probably for a couple seasons. I think there are plenty of better metrics out there now, and the marginal value of bringing back any form of ezPM is probably pretty minimal. Thanks for remembering though! :D p.s. If I ever did g...

Does your model take into account his first 3 years as well?

Re: 2017 draft analytics

The problem with Ball is that he's so limited with how he can create his own shot from deep. NBA teams are going to scout the hell out of it, and right now, it looks like he's way too easy to defend out there.
