Re: Rose Wins MVP And There's Apparently Little Doubt About

I see. I like that format. I'll think about how much work that would be for me. It does seem like it would be very useful, though. I would say, however, that the file is going to be gigantic! In my ezPM code, I keep track of about 40 different statistical categories. Multiply that time 10 players fo...

Re: Rose Wins MVP And There's Apparently Little Doubt About

The Bulls have scored 51.2% of the points in their 5 games vs Atl, yet they hold 2/3 of the Pythagorean wins. If a wins-allotment system says Chi players have had twice as much contribution (toward winning) as Atl players, that is intuitively disturbing to some of us. Others might be more bothered ...

Re: Rose Wins MVP And There's Apparently Little Doubt About

Maybe Evan Z. can help you and us with the with / without data from a play by play perspective for boxscore stats (and shot defense impact) if Aaron has not gotten to and doesn't get to that request for assist. Thanks, for volunteering me! Seriously, though, I am interested in this. I would p...

Re: Assisted vs. Unassisted FG%

The other question is do I credit the passer for the potential assist or debit him? I debit players roughly 0.74 points for missing a shot. On an assisted 2-pt FG, I give the passer (currently) 45% of the credit, and the shooter 55%. So, should I debit 45% of that 0.74 from the passer for the "misse...

Re: Rose Wins MVP And There's Apparently Little Doubt About

Before Rose and Westbrook this season, the only pure PG who had USG>30% was Allen Iverson. It's apparently not a widely- or historically used strategy to depend on that much offense from your PG. I have a feeling that John Wall will soon join that group. Wall for MVP in 2013... Should we start the a...

Rose Wins MVP And There's Apparently Little Doubt About It

Rose 113 1st place votes, Howard gets 3, and LeBron gets 4 (but finishes 3rd overall). Media are sheeple.

I guess if I were a betting man, then I would bet he regresses to the mean soon. If not this series, maybe the next one.

Re: 2011 Playoff summaries

Sample size is really, really small so far for Randolph. 15 playoff games in his career, 8 of them took place over 8 or more years ago. One bad series could quickly change things.

Re: Assisted vs. Unassisted FG%

Based on the 82games study, I assumed that jump shots have a 9.5 %-point advantage when assisted. I used that to calculate a hypothetical unassisted FG% for 16-23 ft jumpers:

Isn't it 0.44*FTA? That's the coefficient I normally see people using.

Re: Who Is More Productive

EvanZ, I would beg to differ. It's semantics, but I think we need to have clear definitions for the terms. I define efficiency as the scoring rate . The points per shot, or offensive rating, or any other "rate" stat. On the other hand, production should account for the usage. I'm not sure I like us...
