Re: NCAA->NBA ML using raw text of historical scouting reports: done!

If you isolated combine measurement information from everything else, is the correlation with performance stronger or weaker in the playoffs compared to the regular season?

I assume Estimated Wins Added is based off PER as described here http://insider.espn.com/nba/hollinger/s ... sort/VORPe

Re: 2019-20 team win projection contest

How many minutes each player will play in regular season. Many predictors build their win estimates from minutes weighed sums of player performances / contributions. But not all. There has been some sharing of minutes models at the end in the past but more collaborative refinement and earlier releas...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

So which teams interviewed Nick Nurse for head coach before the Raptors did? I am assuming the the Rockets never did, though they had employed him in a lower position in the past. Along with almost everyone else. He probably interviewed for the Pistons job. Looks like the Magic passed. Dwane Casey: ...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

Before tonight, the Raptors were ahead on all four factors and only one was close. Tonight's game won't change any of these (I don't think).

Re: 2019-20 team win projection contest

Anybody want to work collaboratively on a freeshare minutes model? Say in August?

What else would improve predictions?

Anybody want to swap model building techniques, in public or private? Anyone want to try a team entry as a novelty?

Depends how you prioritize winning over learning and fun.

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

Close game.

But for series (at least before tonight) Raptors were far more likely to be successful in top lineups than the Warriors and the Warriors used way more dink lineups.

2019-20 team win projection contest

Start talking here when you want.

The teams, the factors in the off season affecting the projections, the methods past and future, whatever.

Re: Next big trade possibilities

Reported Lakers offer for Davis is weak. I assume the Pelicans want to reject it but where is better?

Davis doesn't want to go to Boston. Nets and Clippers not getting traction?

The Pels may keep him til trade deadline.

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

This is a crude boxscore approach

http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... iffeff/1-1

but the Warrior's bench ranked 12th on efficiency differential (rs + playoffs) and is the second lowest on points scored.

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

Tough news for Durant. Really affects a lot of things. Hope and assume he'll eventually come back strong. What he give in game 5 was enough to help win that game and maybe save the series.

Athletes are fragile. Basketball players are at risk but the pay compensates for the risk.

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

The new Grizzlies coach has a high profile pedigree. If it works, they are a modern team with good expectations. If it doesn't, the pedigree gives cover and the failure just helps with getting good draft picks. It is no surprise to see Messina leaving. If there is surprise, it was that he waited thi...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

Dubs getting virtually nothing from bench. I'll again say they probably should be criticized for doing too little about that. And for more than just big men.
