Re: on analysis and betting

Yes, some high frequency or professional gamblers use analytics. Some have occasionally posted here. Usually not revealing much. If you search certain key words you might find some of those posts and names. You could try to contact or generate public discussion but it may or may not work. There are ...

Re: Next big trade possibilities

I currently assume that the Pelicans are more likely to get less to far less than they want for Anthony Davis, particularly in terms of draft picks, than they want. I can see getting 2 firsts. I'd be surprised if it is 4. But may if they have to take bad filler. I don't see Celtics making the huge o...

Improving the Timberwolves

Timberwolves at a factor level mainly need better shooting (and a better shot distribution), better shot defense and better defensive rebounding. It will be important to watch the moves and see if they prioritize these changes. Ideally you might want to move Teague and Wiggins. If they don't move at...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

With almost an 8 point net margin the Raptors are looking good. I guess Durant could beat that on his own if he is at his best. But the most likely way the Warriors win would be some combination of Durant contribution, improved play by other Warriors and / or a decline by the Raptors. Probably need ...

Re: What went wrong for Rockets

Go around LeGarie? Bosses who hate agents and negotiations try it. Doesn't sound like that worked. Usually doesn't. Did they actually think it would? Not sure what the end result will be in the near term. Eventually though, the Rockets will have a different coach. Chris Finch, perhaps? D'Antoni, if ...

Re: 2019 free agency

There are only two 2019 free agents I'd for sure want / be willing to give the full max to. Maybe you could talk me into a few others but not easily. I don't know how many I'd give $20 million /yr but it is probably well less than the number who will get it. (The case against giving the full max to ...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

It appears that the most likely thing to save the Warriors (if it is not too late and if this would be sufficient) would be the return to above average team efg%. It is meh so far in this series. Their shot distribution has been meh in the playoffs series generally. Probably in this series too, mayb...

Re: 2019 Finals: Warriors - Raptors

There is data here that you don't find in mainstream media. They don't seem interested in going that far. Would be easy to cite or seek simpler summary quotes. Oh well. Maybe you get a few per game stats for the series. Settle for that or go beyond the mainstream media on your own. Warriors carried ...

Re: 2019 playoffs

DeRozan on the court in playoffs, negative every year. Quite bad 5 years running, On/off always negative. Went from mildly bad to terrible to super horrendous. RAPM does not look like a fluke. Spurs couldn't get better or misread? Bad look either way. Aldridge's playoff plus minus and on /off mostly...

Re: 2019 playoffs

Any estimate on the size of the average errors?

DeRozan with the 4th lowest estimate.

Re: Thunder

$90 million paid for 3 players and going up. No other team in league had 3 players with top 30 salaries. (9 teams had 2.)

No team has more money already committed for the next 2 years and it is not close.

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

Heat's offense has been below league average since LBJ left. 26th on offensive efficiency last season. 3 straight years of decline over previous. Well below average team efg%, own turnovers and getting to the line. Need to get at least 2 of these to average, preferably above to be more relevant. Tal...

Re: 2019 Draft

I'd do a double take on any player over 240 pounds. Not an absolute barrier but it is generally a minus imo.

Re: Thunder

The Donovan era seems likely to end within the next 12 months.

What kind of coach should they try to find and set up?

Probably younger.
More demanding.
More creative.
More reliant on analytics.

I'd say with more influence on roster decisions too, but that seems unlikely.
