Of the 4 biggest names in Kings management, at least 2 are probably gone in a few years.
Agreed. I can't believe Divac is still there.

http://www.nba.com/kings/crowdsourcing-analytics-point-nik/ http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=13944931 Hey, thanks for correcting that for me, they obviously picked some kind of "winners" at some point. The article you showed was draft 3.0 - so it was their 3rd time doing it. The one I remember was...

Re: Kings/Beech

Luke Bornn hired. I assume influenced by Vivek. Rotating analytics people has some rationale. Shows us your stuff then lets see someone else's . Before the 1st draft under Vivek - Kings did that online competition, inviting people to rank a bunch of college draftees & do a write up on how the ranki...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

You don't need high school stats. Have you thought about putting high school recruiting rankings in your model? Might help with predictive ability. I could do that - but I have been on a mission to prove proper statistical modeling alone is better than current methodology. Combine results, recruit ...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

Another area. "individual defense' in bigs, which I focused on 3 stats -- DReb, Blk, Stl per 40mins. Mostly with further analyzing Lauri Markkanen. His per 40 numbers for those cats respectively, 6.3 dreb, 0.5 spg, 0.7 bpg. It's hard to quantify how bad that is. His most hopeful comp is Ryan Anders...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

I have not done any draft modeling outside of analyzing college stats but for those who have, is any weight put on high school data? For the most part, I'm talking about the 1-and-done players. I imagine you run into the issues of adjusting for competition, actual data (outside of the top Nike/Adid...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

I like ALL the draft modeler guys because they are willing to step out & try to produce results that may fly in the face of convention & open them to ridicule. exactly... and those that openly criticize/ridicule are rarely those that also do their own modeling - because anyone who has poured throug...

I follow a guy on twitter @big_wafe who's draft statistical work I like and he told me he's a lot lower on Thornwell than I am because he adjusts for earlier seasons more I like ALL the draft modeler guys because they are willing to step out & try to produce results that may fly in the face of conv...

Re: 2017 draft analytics

Just plugged Sindarious Thornwell into my model and he rated top 5, despite my model fading the importance of scoring at an old age. Such good stats for a major conference player (16 BPM!) If anyone here follows me on twitter - they know I've been calling Sindarius Thornwell the best player in the ...

Re: Is Westbrook Exposing BPM ?

He went from well below average to a decent player pretty much because of 1/2 an assist per 48 - as far as I can tell. whiteside was the ages of 25-27 this and the past 2 seasons (1415-1617). during that time (5462 minutes) he averaged 20.0 pts/40min, 16.8 reb/40 min, and 5.6% BS... you know how ma...

Re: Is Westbrook Exposing BPM ?

I think the same issue would "break" bmp at the other, low end - if a guy was 40 pts & 20 reb per 36, with a 75% TS%, low turnover rate, yet had 1 assist on the season - I believe he'd have a crazy low (ie very negative) bmp, & be considered one of the very worst in the league by the metric. We jus...

Re: Taking averages of basketball stats?

What is the best way to take an average of a basketball stat? Do different teams have different half-lifes? Different half-life per stat? Is there any work done on what is a more consistent metric then taking an average across all games? It depends on the question you want to answer with the stat a...

Re: Is Westbrook Exposing BPM ?

I think it may be Westbrook's Ast% that is breaking stuff. In one game, it was 100% -- http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201612170OKC.html In ten other games, it's been over 70%. He's not assisting on anywhere near 70% of the FG, since he's doing so much of the scoring. Maybe a term lik...

Re: Seth P

I lived in Anchorage for many years (1993-2007). People used to know me as that "guy from Alaska" before I became that "Hoops Nerd" guy. Hell, if I had stayed there, Seth & I could have started our own analytics city league bball team - that would have been something. Maybe we would have done some a...
