Re: Sam Hinkie gone :(

I really really hate this move for Philly. Given the starting point for Hinkie he did a fantastic job building the base they have, that franchise was in a world of trouble when he took over. To top it off, it reeks of nepotism and a GM likely to waste all the assets acquired. Ownership really messed...

Re: Westbrook defensive lapse analysis

Every defensive metric likes him... the player tracking data at http://www.nba.com shows on westbrook's defensive dashboard FG%s allowed of 51% (119/234) on 2s and 41% (46/111) on 3s... compare the same data for stephen curry FG%s allowed of 46% (137/296) on 2s and 28% (48/173) on 3s... True, one d...

Re: Westbrook defensive analysis (or anyone's)

I don't think I would, but he's interesting. Every defensive metric likes him, yet he's got a rep as a bad defender, which I can't understand. He's a slight plus in last RAPM I saw this season from JE, good in BPM, RPM, on/off, etc. It seems to me he's doing something at a team level thats making up...

Re: Improved players 2015-16

Glad PG's doing so well too, the Pacers are the team I root for in the East, grew up a big Reggie Miller fan.

Re: Nylon Calculus Appreciation Thread

Agreed, the daily content is fantastic, and they're my main stop for some non traditional stats, especially rim protection. Great work all!

Re: 2015-16 Team win projections

I didn't do an actual prediction, but the lines are made for gambling, not actual predictions. I figured PDX would be an over just by Lillard alone, now looking at McCollum's play (thought he'd improve but he's really impressive so far) they look to be a mid 30s win team easily.

Re: 2015-16 minutes projections

Don't want to come off as homeristic/pushy, but looking at OKC's minutes, I think the Kanter/Adams minutes are swapped. They're similar, but I'd expect an even split or maybe a few extra to Adams to be honest.

Re: trade-off between RAPM and minutes

Impact on teammates or new teammates probably should be done at Factor level. The degree of teammate might be greater on defense than offense. On offense the impact might be more on efg% and turnovers than offensive rebounds and getting to the line. There has been plenty of debate of value of RAPM ...

Re: trade-off between RAPM and minutes

Actually on a related note, I had a question on teammate RAPM. Would it be expected that two separate players, when joining a team, should remain at the same RAPM? For example a +4 and a +4 on separate teams, if they were to play together would they in a perfect world be +8 or less? And if less, is ...

Re: Major flaw in SportVu data?

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. FYI, some more optical facts and responses in this follow-up article: http://www.vantagesports.com/story/Vg7lTCEAAB8AoU_K/sensationalist-rejoinder-sportvus-contested-fga-turns-the-worst-defender-into-the-best Interesting rebuttal, and honestly seems to ...

Re: Major flaw in SportVu data?

It makes some inherent sense, because it isn't measuring who is defending the shooter, but "closest player" which is entirely different. I was always a little leery of putting too much faith into the SportVu shot defense data and this was why, and the article backed up some of what I had read/interp...

Re: Does Anthony Bennett have any hope?

He was (is) somewhat a victim of just being a bad pick. Nobody really had him at number 1 overall except apparently the Cavs, and had he gone say 7th in the draft (which would have been entirely plausible given the draft board) it wouldn't be a big deal. Turns out a 3/4 tweener who can't defend or s...

Re: Presti, Kanter, similar players, context and team result

I'm still unsure the fact that guys have poor RPM splits really will contribute that much. In the end its all on coaching and health. The last time they were in the finals both Thabo and Perk had negative RAPMs, and even a year ago key bench guys from GSW weren't amazing in RAPM. I think Kanter was ...

Re: Presti, Kanter, similar players, context and team result

Oh I certainly see both sides, but in the end it was a situation without any real choice. Presti either matched and overpayed (which I do think it is) or he didn't and was short a man on the roster. I have to think he had some input here w/ the players, and ultimately keeping KD happy is a good thin...
