The trade machine can demonstrate the feasibility and desirability of hundreds, probably thousands of trades, maybe tens or hundreds of thousands. What amount of trades actually get 3 or more seconds of GM to GM conversation? Probably dozens, maybe hundreds. But where in that range? We know that they dwell on, haggle on son trades fir weeks, months but we don't really know much about volume of proposals discussed. Whatever it is, it could be more and perhaps should be.

I do recall Rich Cho hired Microsoft employees to produce a list of All possible trades (at least as far as the programming provided). Internal consideration of many, many proposals is one step but getting many of them discussed and meaningfully worked is another, higher, more important level.

The article didn't go there. Gupta might not of been willing. All insiders are so circumspect about revealing much or anything to the public. I'd hope there is some reveal between team equals that aren't immediately threatened by each other. If that I still too much, I hope the internal shop reveal level is good. If the level of reserve / secrecy carries over to internal shop level then the problem is huge. You do hear some about internal politics including with Hinkie's Sixers. That could involve knowledge withheld to various degrees and for various reasons. And knowledge not asked for or used.

Brought in to do routine database blah blah blah.... decided to volunteer ANALYTIC THINKING. In his case the bosses were receptive. Good example on both sides. What made him successful on these stops wasn't fundamentally coding expertise. But teams still focus on the tech skills almost exclusively in job postings. Thinking... maybe that will surprise but prioritize that in hiring? Doesn't seem like it enough.
