New Site - CraftedNBA
New Site - CraftedNBA
Hello Everybody,
I wanted to share a new site that I have built and think that you might find useful/fun to play around with.
http://craftednba.com
The site is designed to allow users to compare players across many of the plus-minus metrics in the same place. I have data from Jacob Goldstein's PIPM, ESPN's RPM, FiveThirtyEight's CARMELO, as well as much of the stuff from Basketball-Reference all in the same place.
I initially set out to make this as a google sheet, but decided it would better suit my personal purposes if it were on the web. I think that the sections people will find most useful/fun are the Team Pages (specifically the Individual Lineups with their projected plus minus) and the Category pages.
I would love to hear from you all about which features you enjoy, what you think is missing, any ideas you would like to see implemented, etc.
Thank you,
Daniel

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
nice work
might be cool to create custom blends
on team pages, i find the player pictures not too useful and the huge amount of padding on the player rows makes it hard to see much at once. it would be nice to see at least 10 player's stats without scrolling

Thanks sndesai1,
I think you are right about the team pages and will implement those suggested changes.
Did you find the site to have a long learning curve, or did you find it pretty straightforward? It's hard for me to think about what a first time user would think.

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
It wasn't obvious to me to click on the player card to see the stats on his page. I did it the second visit but went away unclear the first time. Might add a note on how to proceed.
Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
Thanks Crow,
Were you visiting from a mobile device?

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
The first time yes. Second, no. I don't think I even saw a card the first time. The second time, clicking the card was my final thought.
Plan daily, weekly or occasional updates? Will the 17-18 data still be there? I hope so.
Maybe I am easily confused but I wondered about the hyphen before the blend formula til I figured it was just a hyphen before the formula and not a minus sign.
Simple even blend is worth something. Might suggest a differently weights blend latter.
Will explore team pages more in future.

Great stuff Crow,
I agree about the hyphen. looking at that now, it is confusing.
As for the player cards, I will make the entire card clickable, as opposed to just the player's name and will make the fact that it is a link more apparent on mobile.
Updates Plan:
When looking at the Single Player Page:
As for the ComboPlusMinus - I was really waiting on ESPN to drop their Multi Year RPM before making the formula, but decided to just go ahead without it for now (it did release this week). I will add that to the formula and tinker with it in the next few days.

Updates Plan:
When looking at the Single Player Page:
- The "Traditional Stats" will update daily (will wait until about 10 games into the season though).
- The "Advanced Stats" will update Monday mornings - around 9am est.
- The "Plus Minus Stats" -> not totally sure on these yet, but will probably not update these until about 20 games into the season (I believe this is usually when ESPN drops their first RPM of the year).

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
Hi All,
The site has been updated fully to the current season. All advanced and plus-minus stats are current as of Monday and the Categories pages will reflect these updates.
Thanks, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reminder. Sites need to be promoted multiple times & places. I mentioned on twitter. Still need to look more on computer. I forgot.

Whatsup Everybody,
I wanted to thank you all for the support (I have been receiving around 10 visitors per day from APBR and Cleaning the Glass) in these early stages. I also wanted to invite you all to follow the CraftedNBA twitter account over at https://twitter.com/CraftedNba where I will post things that I find intriguing or curious from the CraftedNBA Player Categories, as well as other NBA musings. Check it out and give it a follow if you would like.
Thanks!

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
Hey, sorry I haven't had much time to look at this, but it could be great. Maybe it hasn't been updated in a couple of weeks?
Is there any option to get more than 25 lines at a time? I'd like to copy the whole of player stats in one swoop, into Excel.
Can you put team abbreviation next to the player name?
Could you do this for previous seasons, or at least for last year? Do multi-year PM include this season?

Re: New Site - CraftedNBA
Thanks for the response and ideas Mike.
All "traditional" stats update daily at this time, but the +- and advanced do not. I have fallen behind on these a bit while making some needed adjustments to the site. The plan going forward is to update them on Monday afternoons and Friday mornings, as RPM is released on Mon and Thurs. I will have an update out tonight by 6pm est.
There is not currently an option to expand more than 25 at a time, but I will tell you that if you use Chrome there is a plugin https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... meop?hl=en that will find an html table on the page and copy the data for you. You would have to do this 25 at a time however, but it would work for you and copies over to google drive/excel.
I like the idea of adding the team abbreviation next to the players name and will implement that this week.
I do not currently have plans to add previous seasons at this time, however I do have plans to feature select players from the past (maybe top 300 all time or so). This would be it's own section of the site and development on this would not begin until the offseason.
The Multi-Year version of PIPM does include this season, but the Multi-Year version of RPM does not. I like having the preseason Multi Year RPM and CARMELO in certain categories as a sort of regression against poor/outstanding starts to the season.
Thanks
