Quick / modest proposal for paying collegians

What if NCAA designated x% of national TV money from tournament to a pool to pay best players. A committee made up mostly or entirely of NBA / USA basketball personnel would be authorized to divide up the money. Players would receive the money technically in exchange for participation in a summer skills & leadership development camp. They may or may not participate in USA basketball activities as well. It probably would be limited to about hundred players and be in range of the new G league select contracts (say $50-150,000). The money would provided in installments over summer. The college system would otherwise be unaffected. Except maybe giving all players a small cut of merchandise revenue and / or allowing players a handful of opportunities to sign autographs and merchandise for pay in a supervised setting. The NBA's role is the scouting evaluations and running the summer camp. USA basketball tags along.

I might be able to refine this later but that is a quick sketch.

What do you like and / or disagree with?

It’s difficult because they are not getting money at the moment but they are going college for “free”, maybe plenty of these guys didn’t go college if basketball didn’t give the opportunity. In Europe and other countries is completely different, the issue here is the money are making the TVs and colleges through players. That’s the problem I think.
