Including FT, and using the standard TS%:bird, mchale, parish, and lewis combined shot better in 90-91 (52.9% eFG%) than in 89-90 (52.7% eFG%) despite a large drop in team ast/fgm of 14%. they obviously did not need alot of assists to shoot well...

The addition of a 5th scoring threat (Gamble) should have allowed these guys to be more selective in their shots. Yet they didn't shoot better -- just less frequently.
As mentioned, Shaw and Brown shot better (and more) than DJ and Bagley had; and still, the more balanced scoring did not quite offset the dropoff in ball distribution.
Larry Bird missed 22 games in '91. Putting his .530 shooting on the bench also helped the Big 4 combined TS%.
