If you can compute the "4 factors" (efg%, oR%, turnover%, ftm/fga for offense and "allowed" by defense), that gives you more information. You can compare offensive factor to defensive factor and say where the advantages and disadvantages may be in the matchup on both sides of the court..

With players you can compare all the separate statistics you have and / or compare the roll-up (PER, winshares per 48 or whatever you are using).

Stats have different levels of importance, so pay attention to the importance of the stat (size of scoreboard impact, direct or indirect) as well as the size of any differences on that stat.
Ok, I understand. Thank you Crow!!!

Hi!!! I invoke all the guru's forum to help me with my doubt!!! :)

My question is about offensive rating and defensive rating for teams. About Offensive Rating there is an easy formula to calculate it, ORTG = 100*Points Scored/Possessions, but I have found another formular more accurately whichi is ...

100 x Pts / (0.5 * ((Tm FGA + 0.4 * Tm FTA - 1.07 * (Tm ORB / (Tm ORB + Opp DRB)) * (Tm FGA - Tm FG) + Tm TOV) + (Opp FGA + 0.4 * Opp FTA - 1.07 * (Opp ORB / (Opp ORB + Tm DRB)) * (Opp FGA - Opp FG) + Opp TOV)))

And my doubt is ... For Defensive Rating exists any other formula more accurately than the traditional, DRTG = 100*Points Allowed/Possessions?

Thanks in advance!!!

The simple offensive rating is just scoring efficiency, though it is also called offensive efficiency.

The complicated one is evaluating the entire offensive impact OF INDIVIDUALS (not teams to my knowledge) and comes from Dean Oliver.

The complicated defensive rating should be the average complicated offensive rating of their opponents but is calculated here https://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ratings.html

If you are now focused on teams just use the simple formulas, because the complicated ones are for individuals.

Hi all!!!

I've got another question. I have found an statistic with ORTG and DRTG, OK, there is no problem. But, then ... associated to this two statistics there is another called "Adjusted Team". How can I calculate this new value from ORTG and DRTG or is calculated from another values? Which ones?

Thanks in advance!!!

It is almost certainly adjusted for strength of team played but can't advise how they did it without the original link. Or google adjusted team or offensive effiency and someone probably has done a write-up. Or maybe one of at least a handful of people here who do this could give a link or explanation.

Hi!!!

Looking information about adjusted stats I have found this acronym HCA... What's the meaning of HCA?

Ah the end of the page there are a pair of formulas with this acronym.
