All Star suggestions 2024

Post by Mike G »

Including all players ranking top20 (or tied for 20th) in any of these 5 stat columns. The minimum (#20) in each:
21.5 PER
.184 WS/48
4.7 WinShares
4.6 BPM
2.0 VORP
Then converting PER and BPM to "wins" totaling the same (189.1) for this group as their Win Shares; averaging the 3 measures (weighted 4:3:2 for bW:WS:pW)
No correction for games played by teams (sorry). Western Conference:

Curiously the West has almost twice as many candidates as the East; though a lot are centers.
East will likely have to reach beyond this listing :

10 of 25 qualifiers in West are centers. Think you should have a good Center (or more) to compete there?

Suns and Mavs don't have a qualifier. Probably did but traded away.

Nurkic ranks #60 in both PER (17.5) and WS/48 (.132) -- 90th in BPM (+0.5) -- out of 200 qualifying players.
Those ranks translate roughly to 12th or 18th best at one's position, except that there's a glut at his.
He's 3rd or 4th best on the Suns in all these.

Mavs' Lively looks like one of the top 5 rookies this year. Top 3-5 in everything on his team. May be getting better by the month.

Voters picked 4 of the top 5 in the East, skipping Brunson -- and a few other guards -- to go with #9 Lillard.
It is Dame's first ever selection as an allstar starter.

He's had 6 seasons with bigger Pts/G and higher eFG% in each of those; 4 with also higher Ast/G
Higher PER 7 times, better WS/48 8 times, higher BPM 9 times.

Apparently the West has had much better guards to pick from -- plus Klay Thompson -- his whole career.
Make-up call?
