Wilq, you are conflating two separate issues. The reference to posting something that some may have missed so that folks can comment on it if they choose does not pertain to the separate issue of posting links to the BI blog. If it did, your comment would be appropriate. The stand-alone single issue post is like the thread we are in now re "True usage". These are two separate issues.

So, hey guys, multiple credit possessions, thoughts?

I don't have too much more to say at the moment. Yes it is good to recognize that most possessions are cooperative to some degree but they are also still individual or "rivalrous" in terms of who takes the first shot. I do like the idea of dividing both the possession and credit, feeling that doing one but not the other is not ideal, but doing both might have issues too to be aware of or fix.

I think it is important to look at team / lineup efficiency while a player is on the court in addition to a players personal stats. But since opponent and teammate quality varies, I want to see the rpm and factor splits to gauge the total offensive impact of players. Especially for point guards but to fully recognize the multiple roles/ impacts of players, it should be done for all. It might be worthwhile for teams to have a statistical value approach to this too from video for actions worth ctedit picks, secondary assists, etc. to serve as a crosscheck on the rpm estimates which in a certain of cases can be way off accidentally or skewed by rotation context.
A special PG rating analogous to QBR might be a worthwhile move even if it is not done for all.

Can you compute the efg%, ts% and / or offensive efficiency on a player's assist usage and "true" or total usage? I think you have the data to at least do efg%. The later would get at efficiency where player had major involvement, halfway between looking at individual usage efficiency and efficiency of all team possessions while player was on court. Would be addition info to consider in thinking about who over / under shot or passed.

I have done this, but I don't trust the "resulting EFG" from passes really at all as a measure of anything the player is accomplishing.

I wouldn't treat as gospel but I'd think it was worth knowing and see how it fits with other info from stats and video.
