If I did it right, LBJ had 17 such games in 22 total games last season. Kawhi has 12 in 17 games so far. No one else in that group at this point this season or last season.

Sounds about right. You could cut it at 20 or 25 or whatever. I was cherry-picking the cutoff in Kawhi's favor.
Duncan's 2003 and Shaq's 2000 were epic, career-best, and Kawhi may be there. Does he go for the kill tonight? Does Giannis assert his physicality when his back is to the wall?

It's hard to be the best player on the court when Giannis is out there, but Kawhi has been the man.

Has anyone computed the average tenure in years for players on specific teams for league or individual teams?

How good was Kawhi Leonard's 2019 postseason?
Using an amalgam of Win Shares and VORP, take the avg of WS and VORP*2
In the 3-point era -- 40 years now -- the top 20 chronologically:

Before LeBron shipped himself to Miami in 2010, the NBA Finals MVP -- 43 years of them -- averaged 12.5 seasons with the team they led through those Finals.
Since that time, none have had such franchise loyalty.

How long will A Davis stick with Lakers? Could be rest of career, could be short.

Will both Leonard & George stick around?

Giannis... probably sticks around.

Warriors more old school.

Is Durant done moving? I lean slightly toward no.

Compared to the alternatives, previously available and in the future, the Celtics sticking long-term with Walker Brown Tatum Hayward does not seem the best to me. No way I see a title coming with that core. Oh decent / good seasons. But no titles and not close.

In past 12 seasons 70% of teams have made at least one conference finals.

Rockets and Thunder under Morey and Presti have made 5 total. That is 50% above the average but would be much closer to average for the non-terrible teams. No titles in 24 tries. Just one finals game won.

Other ways to look at it but on year to year team win progression, Rod Thorn had 4 improvements, 9 declines as top executive and then was helped by 3 - 1 as a senior consultant for Bucks.

Would want to consider details of course but that provides some perspective.

The Warriors lost their season opener, 141-122 to the Clippers. In this game, LAC shot .738 eFG% -- the 13th best eFG shooting game of all time or since 1984 at least. TS% of .756 is the 14th best known, and both are by far the highest ever against the GSW.

It wasn't the LAC best shooting game ever, though. In March of 1998, the last-place (Pacific division) Clippers were pleased to host the last-place Toronto Raptors and beat them 152-120. They not only shot .744 eFG% (and .758 TS%), they put up the all-time highest O-Rtg of 162.8 pts/100 poss.

Clippers hall-of-famers for a night were Darrick Martin, Rodney Rogers, Lamond Murray, Ike Austin, Eric Piatkowski, Mo Taylor, and Lorenzen Wright.

Of the top 20 on VORP (available measure of overall value on BRef) the least efficient scorers (on ts%) are Giannis, LeBron and AD. They are in top 20 because of usage & other contributions, not scoring efficiency. And the gap to rest of group is pretty large. May be a big deal in regular season and especially in playoffs.

The 20-3 Lakers are leading the league in blocked shots, with 7.4 per game.
They're also the least-blocked team on offense, with just 3.3 opponent Blk/G

That's more than a 2:1 ratio. How unusual is this?
Since blocks are counted since 1973-74, the progressive record for best Blk/OppBlk ratio:

Code: Select all

Bk/Op yr Tm Blk OpBlk W%
1.66 1974 MIL* 6.3 3.8 .720

2.24 2020 LAL 7.4 3.3 .870
Only 24 teams have averaged more than 7.4 blocks for a season.
Opp. Blk of 3.3/G is the 8th lowest in NBA since 1974.

Of 54 teams with a block ratio of 1.50 or better, the avg Win% is .680, and all have made the playoffs.

LeBron James' playoff totals are almost as great as any 2 other active players in these stats:

Code: Select all

playoff minutes
LeBron 10049
Durant 5598
Thompson 4570

playoff FT
LeBron 1627
Durant 1013
Harden 790

playoff DReb
LeBron 1756
Durant 957
Dwight 932

playoff assists
LeBron 1687
Rondo 981
Paul 865

playoff steals
LeBron 419
Paul 222
Harden 205

playoff points
LeBron 6911
Durant 4043
Curry 2968
Partly this is due to several of his contemporaries retiring in the last couple of years: Gasol, Wade, Parker, Ginobili... Largely it's LeBron.

In these categories, he has more than any 2 others in the league:

Code: Select all

playoff FG
LeBron 2457
Durant 1363
Curry 979

playoff TO
LeBron 866
Durant 438
Harden 399

playoff WinShr
LeBron 51.0
Durant 23.0
Kawhi 17.6
Curry 17.1

playoff VORP
LeBron 33.1
Durant 10.4
Curry 9.6

In that last one the next 3 don't add up to #1
