The Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors are the most successful David Stern Era expansion teams by valuation...and the biggest markets. 6 others are at very bottom(with multiple title but long adrift Pistons).

Market selection? Stern mostly avoided big 3 league competition but got markets that were that way for reasons. Relatively small, not that rich (with exception of Minneapolis). Owner choice was also an issue in most of the lower performing cases.

Scottie Barnes, negative team +/- on court, on/off and with 3 of 4 starters (Anunoby being the exception. Bad with Schroeder and Poeltl.) +6 BPM though.


Anunoby, strong raw on/off but just neutral on BPM (lowest in 5 years). Career low rebounding and steals.Pretty good efg% and ts%. 39% from 3. Below average FT rate.

43rd best on DarkoPM. One quick downward break from career to date high. Is that the peak? An important question but too soon to say. New context could lead to improvement or decline. Attempts could be made to predict.

Fwiw, Barnes - Trent - Siakam is the by far best trio among 10 most used. Only 14th most used at less than 8 minutes per game though.

Positive results in first 10 games turned mildly negative thereafter. Why did it work then not? Random or real? Barely a meaningful test. Try more? Versus what more interesting options?

I follow the data but the next level is trying to understand the data.




In last 5 games, Barnes - Trent - Siakam is the by far best trio in 25 most used and only a few others were positive. But usage down to 6 minutes per game. Use more or moving on? If moving on, almost nothing else is looking promising in top 25. Schroeder Anunoby Boucher is looking good (in too small 27 minute test). Interesting beyond the +/-? Look, decide on that and some similar positive but too small tests.

241 trios used this season. 134 in last 5 games. Going to be a lot of trios but come on. Have some intentional priorities guys.

Flynn and Achiuwa have half decent stats and some recently good performing pairs. Give them more priority for further testing. Both have issues with turnovers. Takes experience and film learning to control them.

Time to decide whether to invest / play more or move on.

Both need to step up to justify a place in the design. Last push to find out. Probably not good enough.

Pistons, Wizards and Spurs all lose again. Spurs made it close.

If I ran the rotation, I'd do something like this (after Duren was back) based on best lineups to update and other developmental considerations:

Plenty of losses will still come but got to find some building blocks for future and / or accept results and blowup major portions of "core" / design.

Is Windler any good? I dunno. But still wonder.
