Ah, but surely that multiplication factor is going to help these negative players who come off the bench, and hinder the players who start? In other words two players with the same rating, one coming off the bench and one starting, the bench player will have a higher rating due to the multiplication.

Nobody has a negative T rate, over more than a few minutes. That would be someone with more turnovers than everything else, basically.
Put another way, everyone makes positive contributions. This positive number T then has replacement T subtracted. Sub-replacement players make negative eWins.

Austin Rivers has started 23 of 51 games and has a Start%Factor of .997 -- close to league average. His T rate is 13.20, replacement level as defined in eWins.

If he'd gathered the same stats while starting all 51 games, his St%Fac would be 1.025, and his T rate 13.57. This yields eW/484 = .04
If he'd come off the bench for all those minutes, and still been as bad, his St%Fac = .969, and T = 12.83; e484 = -.04

Jonas Valanciunas (Tor) really heated up toward season's end and wound up with a TS% of .618 . Only rookies with a better TS% in as many minutes: Steve Johnson, Jeff Ruland, and Otis Thorpe -- all in the early '80s. In the ABA, Artis Gilmore and Bobby Jones.

2nd Team is more of a question mark mostly because guards were totally ignored which is weird.
I guess you can't expect that much from this award.
