Sorry to hear about the google cache ban. I hope it is temporary and doesn't interfere with your other activity.

Don't worry about the page gap in that particular cited thread. I already rounded up all the pages of that thread and posted it. One of a few dozen really old threads I did given the high profile topic.

Just an update before I call it a day. Phpbb is being stubborn. I'm able to automate the form posting, but the topic just isn't showing up. I'll look at it more tomorrow and see if I can't figure out why that's the case. I'm not sure if phpbb has any spam protection that could be blocking it?

Regarding the Google ban, it's not that big of a deal. It's only from accessing cached links and it'll probably be lifted sometime tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get phpbb to accept an automated posting. I'll leave the content that I was able to grab up as long as you need. I wish I could've helped more, but it's great to see you're still restoring posts.

That's too bad. Thanks for trying to do the auto-post and providing the file.

If any want to recover specific threads from Justin's list, use the file and pull the pieces together from there or the way I described.

I'll probably do a bit more but not sure how much more.

There are some bots around to do that sort of thing--do you think if you got in contact with the admin (Kevin Pelton) you could work out a way to adjust the forum settings to allow automated posting? If not, it would be good to post the whole reconstructed tree to a web domain. I may do that myself, yet--I've got Warrick running right now.

What I wrote was a small bot. Technically the forum shouldn't know the difference between this and an actual person because it simulates the interaction (go here, click this button, enter info into this input, etc). That said, I don't know very much about phpbb and what type of protections it could have in place. Here is the Ruby code for the two methods I tried if anyone else wants to play around with it -

Justin, I downloaded your recovered wayback archive file but can't get it to open, receiving various messages that it can't be unzipped, file names are invalid or I don't have permission to access, etc. It might be issues with my old windows and zip software. I'll probably leave that file to you and others to possibly pull stuff out of. I'll probably stick to by old method if I do more, unless a way to access this file is explained and works.

Hmm, here is a zip file instead - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/602885/sonicscentral.com.zip (32mb). Hopefully that will work.

Alright, thanks; I'll try that later. I guess I was mistaken in thinking it was previously a zip file.

I still can't open the zip file. It says invalid file names. Maybe because of use of disallowed characters in the filename? I've never had a problem opening a win zip file before. I am not good at figuring these types of issues out.

Can anyone open either the original data file or this zip file? If so, I leave it to others to use... if they want to help recover any those threads.

Third time is a charm, right? I renamed the files 0-*.html - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/602885/sonicscentral.zip

Thanks Justin. I got the files to open this time.

Still it is 2200 puzzle pieces that need labeling and sorting.

I'll figure what I can and am willing to do with it as time permits.

Good work in the restoration, Crow.
