A new idea for a new league came to me. So here it is, fwiw, if WBD doesn't win in court case:

A four team league. Las Vegas, Austin TX, Atlanta and probably Chicago. GMs? Shaq, Kenny Smith, Barkley and... maybe Obama. Or KG or somebody else. Or more than 1 per team. Commissioner Ernie Johnson.

Teams play 2 times per week, preferably on days with lower NBA game quantity. 12 player rosters. 2 doubleheaders per week for cheap. Salaries TBD but would need some names,
maybe some recent retirees, physically ready 17 / 18 year olds, Euros, Asian players and / or women.

Starting in fall 2025. Rule changes possible, inline with past proposals.

Having a network to generate revenue is the hardest part. In arena revenue, merchandise, etc. is gravy. Play at college arenas.

Not too serious. It is about story lines and interpersonal drama.

Could be Dec. to early April but Sept. to Feb. might be better. (Finals during All-Star weekend?)

Do it for business, do it for spite. Or propose it as a negotiation tactic.

Could be interesting, could be awful. Might be better than nothing.

36 game schedule or 24 or 48 depending on degree of confidence / commitment. Single 7 game championship series.

Could try 8 teams, right away or later but I might go with 4 at first to keep it manageable at first.

Maybe 36 minute games with 2 major breaks and lots of intro and outro.

Some new refined ideas for this proposal.

Call it the Remix league.
Start Nov. 2025 and finish in February.
All in Vegas, Atlanta or split.
All players 24 and under.

Broadcast to be a mix of tape and live. Start with opening credits / original dance team performance then league explanation, status report, behind the scenes with players, coaches and management. Then tape highlights of game 1 and first half of game 2 with commentary from the foundational TNT crew / team GMs. Then 1 song from a famous or rising female singer to kick off the final live half game.

Most or all the game innovations I've suggested before and possibly a 4 point shot from 32 feet in final 4 minutes only. Sharply reduce touch fouls and other minor infraction calls.

Stick around for more highlights after game finale and set up next games. Possible talk about NBA, Unrivaled women's league, Overtime Elite, Euroleague, college ball, prep ball, NBA Draft, NBA podcasts & Twitter, etc.

Involve 20 and 30 something reporters and commentators in all the above and live game watch clips. Take written and / or video questions from audience over the internet. Highlight guest shots with rising fan / new media faces.
Do player profiles to support NBA or Euro aspirations.

Remix almost anything basketball and splashes of other stuff into the show.

Pay the players 2-5 times G league salaries. 8-10 players per team.

Occasional highlights training methods, nutrition, etc. with marketing tie-ins.

Do some reality TV tape of players off the court, interacting with teammates, in relationships, in the city, with family, sponsors, etc.

Maybe let Shaq DJ the outro.

It is a show. The league at least begins as a prop for the show and see what happens. Continue, expand or drop the league and maybe drop the show.

Maybe time best part of the show for typical time of 1st NBA game halftime or highlights of the best parts to that time.

If TNT wanted to stay in pro men's space, just NBA yakking would be easiest.

If they want to compete, the best timeframe in my mind might have shifted to July / August to late Sept or October.

Do that and check the results. Maybe expand if they get a foothold.

Could consider airing euroball of some kind in more visible way. Maybe pay some bigger name Americans to join in. Or try to add one or a few American teams to a euro league.

Or use europlayers (young, possibly older) in a significant way in a new American based league.

If they want more basketball content with a different look.

The former would be easier than the latter and might get ahead of NBA talk of greater euro collaboration, fwiw.

It depends how much they care about pro basketball beyond Unrivaled. They have college ball.

NBA / TNT used idea of TNT crew as team GMs for the All-Star games. Ok with that format but the rest of it...

Not advocating for it but assessing the possibility. If try a rival league, it probably should be loud.


Probably much better than Maverick Carter's idea of an international men and women international touring league. If invest in that, I'd want tight, early control. I wouldn't invest in that unless accompanied by a global media firm and committed global advertisers.
