The Olympic Trials were held in Colorado in June 1972. This was during the NBA-ABA war for signing players, as a result college seniors, who typically would wait to after the Olympics to sign with pro teams, pretty much skipped the Trials. This rule changed in 1976, where seniors could sign a contract and play, as long as they had not played any pro games. Addtionally, citing injuries Bill Walton chose not to attend the Trials; his college teammate Keith (now Jamaal) Wilkes also did not attend.
About 60 players did attend, representing the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA (junior college), AAU, and Armed Forces. As in prior Trials, a series of games were held to determine the team. Unlike prior years, the teams were mixed together, previously the AAU Stars would play as a team, the Juco team as one, etc. This was probably done to the decline of AAU, largely due to the large contracts making AAU ball much less attractive than prior.
Henry Iba coached the team. The players were split into 8 Teams, each given a color. Each team played every other one. The surprise of the Trials was Swen Nater, UCLA's back-up center, who led the tournament in scoring. The second leading scorer was Doug Collins, of Illinois State. At the end of the camp, 12 players were selected for the team.

Lname Fname
Ratleff Ed
Burleson Tom
Collins Doug
Joyce Kevin
Bantom Mike
Brewer Jim
Jones Dwight
Jones Bobby
Davis Kenny
Henderson Tom
Brown John
Nater Swen

All but Davis (AAU) and Henderson (NJCAA) were NCAA college players. The biggest omission was Marvin Barnes, who
led the trials in rebounding, second biggest was Tom McMillen, who was 1 of the biggest names at the Trials.

The team went to training camp in Hawaii. Nater left the team, complaining of the food and conditions. He was replaced by McMillen. Brown was injured at some point, and replaced by Jim Forbes,

They played 5 exhibition games, beating various teams of NBA and ABA players - the first against former Olympians.
I won't go into the Olympic Games here, there is a lot of information about it available throughout the Internet.

I hope this helps as a starter, let me know what specific questions you have, and I will try and answer them.

I have where they played, the rosters are probably shaky as there are just box scores, and other than the first game where they played former Olympians, I probably can't tell all who played.
