Sorting CraftedPM metric composite by age band:
21 yrs old and under, median of about -2. Only 2 positives: Lively at almost +3, Clingan at almost +1. K Ware at almost 0. Effectively no one else above -1. Nine -3 or worse, with C Williams the worst at -4.4. Only about 35 guys.
22-24. 140 guys. Less than 25% positive. Median of -1.3. 6 +3 or better, headed by Wemby at +6.2. 17 -3 or worse, with the worst at -4.
25-28. 211 guys. Median of about -0.8. SGA tops at +8.2. Bottom again near -4.
29-32. 74 guys. Median of +0.2. Jokic tops at +8.4. Bottom close to -3.5. (Micic, the overhyped NBA dud / Euroleague MVP guard.)
33-36. 44 guys. Median of +0.1. Leonard heads at +4.6. Bottom again at about -4.
37 & over. 20 guys. Median of -0.7. Steph Curry leads at +4. Bottom near -3.5.

Median for age 28 is barely negative. Have to get to 29 for positive. Median of +0.5. Slightly less than half are positive at 28. Slightly more at 29.
Draft is important for rare early positive? And trying to find lesser negatives. Slightly more than 25% positive in 24 yr old season. Slightly less at 23. 16% at 22. Under 8% at 21. 0% positive at 20 & under. Less than 1/3rd positive at 26.
Draft and play young negatives the supermajority of time on rookie contracts and into 2nd contracts. In pursuit of "development"... or not so much depending on importance of maximizing current winning. Positives will just briefly be more common than half... on 3rd contracts. But chase the exceptions... or not as much as the other guys, depending if you have / can get positives in the other markets.
Get positives where possible and then minimize negatives, probably mostly with vets. Outside the minority of positives, that is mainly what teams trying to win now should be doing: reducing negatives. Minimizing time using young guys except for the very best. Guys close to positive or positive, or at least looking like they might be positive someday.
Set 0 impact at replacement level if you want a mostly positive scale. But 0 at average easily shows you who is helping / hurting on making an above average team.
