#1 offense, 20th defense with what they've had. Things get better later both ways? 24th on SOS to date.
Just 22nd on 3pta rate but 1st on 3pt fg%. 2nd on 2pt fg%, 3rd on ft%.
Pace fell from 8th last season to 20th. Efficiency ranks are both mildly better. Shooting ranks by level are slightly better in 2 cases and the same from 2pt range.
Big picture, a slower version of the same team.

Jokic at career best +16.6 BPM and Murray at tied for career best +4.1. Jokic at career high usage (29.8), Murray just slightly below (27.5) helps the BPM.
Jokic at almost 72% ts%. Murray also at career best 63%. Both at career high ft rates. Jokuc also at career high 3pt rate. Jokic at career best finishing at rim (79%), Murray 2nd best. Jokic amazing from mid-range, Murray good.
Quite the performing duo.
Best team +/- on the court of career for both. And Gordon and Braun far exceeded them with dramatically greater, career best +/-.
Nuggets look special but getting little talk.
NBA stops counting heave attempts, Jokic stops taking them, after his only 2 career makes last season. Murray makes his first heave.

Heaves are now called 1/2 Court at b-r.com and apparently aligned with the new rule. I am sure Jokic heaved one at the end of regulation (score tied) vs the Wolves on xmas; almost certain he had at least one made before last season.
So they are freebies at the end of quarters 1-3 only; not when potential game-changers.

Jokic went down on Dec. 27, and the Nuggets are 3-4 in the meantime. Six road games followed by a meltdown at home vs Atl.
Players have stepped up, including some who had hardly played in their first 31 games. In order of BPM increase in these last 7, compared to with-Jokic:

Gordon back on & off.
Watson back.
1st of offensive rating, 22nd on defense.
Playoffs could see widely different outcomes.

Don't know what the Co-GMs working with ownership looks like on the inside, but the unsatisfactory season would probably be enough for me to change from that.
Poor defense continued. Very little of the roster change or Coaching change suggested defensive improvement and it didn't happen.
Options include a new GM, a new defensive coordinator or maybe a new Coach. And of course, active roster change and minutes & lineups changes. Probably system changes too. Something more / better than this season.

Would look for 3 for 1 Murray trades.
Not just anything. Something that looks good for defense and for a few years.
Half measures didn't work. Time is short for another title push, if not totally over.

Well, 2 of their top 4 or 5 players were unavailable in the playoffs, so it may not be occasion to blow up the team.

Defensive efficiency was bottom 10 in regular season and below mean in playoffs.
Watson is probably overrated, on way to being over paid.
I can't see how they fix the defense or retain Watson, with Murray making $50 million and rising.
Timberwolves or Timberwolves in a mulri-team deal might have some possibilities. Maybe Raptors.
I'd think seriously about moving Jokic to PF (and Gordon to SF) and asking him to lose 10-15 pounds.
Other options could be 2-3 for 1 sign n trade of Watson or trade of Braun.

Typically in regular season, Murray's on / off gain for offense exceeds a loss on defense. But in this playoffs, the offensive efficiency was 20 points worse and the defense on was better. I don't understand that but would want to. It is about the starters as well as change in behavior of bench units. The playoff numbers have gyrated year to year. The bottomline was it was not near good enough to go deep.

Aren't Gordon and Watson their 2 best defenders?
Are they assumed to forever be injury prone?
