I'm pretty sure it's 79 inches or 6 foot 7 or 2.00m and 219 pounds or 99kg. Not weighted by minutes

Average over all 4 seasons. Obviously the figures might differ very slightly if you look at the single years

These links aren't reachable right now, given the nba's current blockade on seeing past stuff on their site
http://www.nba.com/news/survey_2008.html
but they should be available after the deal gets done.
This list stopped with 2007-8
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_league ... experience
Weight crested in 2003-4 and was since receded consistently in the period. Height is similar but with a slight deviation up in 2007-8 (and players were biggest in the period in 1986-7 by a small amount).
Would be interesting to see the most recent data against this back-drop.
Of course data
weighted by minutes could be different. I am pretty sure someone has done that here or elsewhere before but I didn't find that yet.
Age crested in 1999-2000, hit a recent low in 2003-4 (but was consistently low before the mid-90s), then bumped up in 2007-8. This study looks at finalists over time.

This compares unweighted and minutes weighted age for last season.

This past season, the average height of 452 players who appeared was 6' 7.16"
The avg height of the NBA players on the floor at any time was 6' 6.92"
"Six-foot-seven" about nails it.
Apparently, there are more taller players with low minutes.
The 42 7-footers averaged 1077 minutes.
The 35 players 6-1 and under averaged 1444 minutes.

Minutes weighted averages for each designated height, 2010-11 reg. sea.
Players over 7 feet are in the top line; players 6 feet and shorter in the bottom line.

OW% = OWS/WS -- the fraction of players' Win Shares attributed to offense.
Six-one players are the worst (WS/48, PER, TS%, FT% among shorter players), yet they play the most minutes.

6-10 guys have the best average offensive ratings and net ratings (=OR-DR). 4 teams ended the last season with 3 6-10 guys on the roster- Denver, LA Lakers, Orlando and OKC (based on basketball reference listed height), Chicago, Dallas, Boston and Memphis had among those with none. The most minutes played by 6-10 guys were in NY at around 4,000 minutes played then Orlando and then followed by a group of Miami, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Minnesota, OKC and Utah with around 3,000 minutes played.
Bosh leads on 2010-11 RAPM at +4.4. Ryan Anderson second at +2.9 then Okafor, Radmanovic and Odom were also over +2.0. Out of 51 players over +2.0. 39 players are 6-10 and 454 were rated on RAPM. So despite having the best individual net ratings on any height, the 6-10 guys are slightly under-represented amongst the top RAPM level. Only 8 more 6-10 guys rated above neutral out of the additional 150, so again, less than representation than proportion to population. 2/3rds of the 6-10 guys (with the best average individual net ratings) were estimated as non-positive on impact by 2010-11 RAPM while 55% of the entire league were similarly neutral or negative. The 6-10 height was in the middle of the pack for such performance amongst other heights. Not near the best, not near the worst. The discrepancy between the average net rating and this measure may say something about one or both of the metrics and / or something meaningful about the performance of players of that size.
3 7'0 and taller players were in the top 10 on 2010-11 RAPM. But a total of only 13 of 42 were estimated positive, so 75% were disappointingly negative despite having 2 of the 3 next best average net individual ratings for height levels (6-8 being the other). In the very bottom performing of heights.
6-11 was more like 6-10 on this measure. 6-10, 6-11 had more positive impact players than taller players.
In the 2011 draft only 2 guys 6-10 got taken in the first round, 7 in the second round. 4 6-11 guys in the first round, 1 more in the second. Just one 7 footer in the entire draft. Short supply of really tall players. And once they get in the NBA, even a shorter supply of positive RAPM impacts from them. 25% of the 2011 draft were this tall. Last season such players held 27.4% of all NBA jobs. But got less minutes and had a lower percentage of positive RAPM impacts.
Which height has the highest proportion of positive RAPM estimates? 6-7 is average height and it looks like it did better than other heights on this. Perhaps the best blend of perimeter skills and height. A nice match-up between the performance data and the actual NBA average size. 6-2 and under also did comparatively well. Average individual net ratings has both of these height groups as negatives overall but RAPM estimates a higher % of positives amongst them than elsewhere.
Probably better to look at boxscore stats and RAPM than just one, I think.
