What sort of data do teams record and analyze?

As a lay person I have so little information to be able to accurately evaluate what's really happening in a game. Do teams record on every play information like responsibilities for defensive rotations, double teams, whether a shot is contested, etc etc etc?

I would hope that teams have just a ridiculous amount of charted information for every game for every team for the last few decades. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Chris, anything from the world of baseball analysis that you think can be adapted to basketball and probably hasn't been yet (at least in public) that you are willing to volunteer? On defense, shot selection, aging curves or something else?

Anybody compared their actual touches data with Bob's previous estimate method?

Secondary and FT assists appears to add a 1/3 more assists to traditional assists.
