Analyzing the Nets

This article https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/07/nets-k ... ving-moves says the Nets did 9 major things right to set up the acquistions of Durant and Irving.

These moves amount to good work, but what else could be said?

Harris, LaVert and Allen are all near neutral on RPM. Dinwiddie is a level below that.

Harris and Dinwiddie were awful in this past playoffs.

You could argue that it was regrettable or flat bad decisions to let Ed Davis and Napier go.

What else did they do or not do that wasn't helpful? Signed Musa in 1st round.

They made the playoffs in a pretty weak east. That was key to their recruiting pitch but it isn't that strong a base.

The offense should improve but the defense may slip.

Are they going to be willing to pay what it takes to eventually re-sign LaVert, Allen?

I don't know them well but a case could be made that Dinwiddie, Harris and LaVert have leveled off already. Allen still improving but how far?

Atkinson is good coach but is he better than that?

Irving was great in first 2 playoffs, then down to good and then down to meh or probably worse. What's next?

I assume Durant gets back to close to what he was, but no guarantees he does or stays healthy.

What do people expect from them? Title(s)? Conference finals appearances? Even the latter is not guaranteed next year or ever. It will be a fight for that or beyond.

They were 6th seed last season.

Probably 3-6th seed this season. I'd guess more likely 5th or 6th than 3rd or 4th.

Prince, Chandler, Jordan strike be as ok or meh adds. That and the existing ok to meh may be enough when Durant joins Irving but not enough til then.

If they go for 3rd star, who might that be?

Milsap, DeRozan, Hayward, Love, Horford, Draymond Green, Levine, Kennard, Randle, Barton, A Gordon...

I doubt they get a better star and not sure how much these guys would help.

What are they going to accomplish? Probably not much. I doubt they get out of 2nd round in next few years. They are probably returning to lottery level in 2-3 years. Or possibly sooner.

Where do they want to play Durant? If PF, then target a wing. If SF, then it should be PF or possibly SG.

They are probably open to trading all the guys outside of Irving, Dinwiddie, Harris, Durant, Jordan. Would rather trade other forwards besides LeVert but he could go for right get.

Almost certainly will go for offensive player. Shooting or driving? Could go for either.

7th seed because of Irving. Both injuries and on the court results with him.

How much to retain Dinwiddie?

How much for Joe Harris?

Do they really want to stay?

Both Irving and Durant could try to become Moreyball oriented. In regular season that likely would be mainly more 3pta. Will Nash push for that? He was pretty modest 3pta himself. And from line. And at rim. So... it won't be from personal style experience. Maybe from Warriors consulting? What has he said about analytics? Will they make analytics more integral? What will Irving and Durant say about the process and the substance? Will they listen / change anything? Durant is 32. Might he change pro-actively or relatively?

Durant might set his career high on assist rate. If he or Nash push for it. Irving could help or hurt such potential plans.

Nets might be near average age sweet spot, depending on a free agents / trade possibilities.
