Hackathon- "part 2"

After the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference Hackathon is run and judged, a part 2 could be to release the work of the top 3-5 or all and then have an open competition for analyzing, extending, "using" the analysis beyond the first push. Analysis should not be a one day thing, a one person or team thing. It should be worked again, reimagined, mined several times for additional and quite specific "value". 2nd pass analysis is different but could be very valuable. It might be considered a somewhat different skill. Design and technique are starters. Value extraction through application alongside everything else is the main thing though. Value extracted is not always an original target or immediately evident.

Part 2 could occur in summer, or in classroom next fall or the next conference (and the next...) Teams should be looking for original researchers, collaborators, re-imagineers and analysis analysts and analysis presenters. Maybe someone is best overall but very good or best at one part is still worth identifying and having on a team.

I suspect the "on to the next thing" imperative is strong. But if something is worth doing, it is probably worth studying hard again and again and possibly re-doing in some way.
