A shot from just short of mid-court at the buzzer by Bobby McDermott of the
Original Celtics topped the Detroit Eagles 42-40 in the first game of the night as
the Celtics held off a late rally by Dutch Dehnert's NBL champion Eagles to extend
their winning streak to 60 games. In the second game the Philadelphia SPHAs of the
American Basketball League easily handled the Harlem Renaissance behind the
shooting of Petey Rosenberg and Red Rosan.

In the consolation game the Harlem Rens defeated the Detroit Eagles 49-45 in front
of the 6,500 spectators in Public Hall.  In the tournament championship the SPHAs
topped the Celtics 43-38 to snap their winning streak. Irv Torgoff led the SPHAs
with 17 points as his club claimed the $1,000 prize and tournament trophy.  The
Celtics received $500 for their second-place finish and promoter Max Rosenblum
announced that he would donate $750 to the Municipal Basketball Association,
enabling the amateur organization to continue play.
