LIneup trends around the league
Re: LIneup trends around the league
Clippers, 4 most used lineups are 3 horrendous, 1 neutral.
Only 31 used. Plenty of better performing options in tiny minutes. Explore some of them more fully.
Leonard, moderately to highly negative results with 9 of 10 teammates. 14th on team for team +/- on court, 15th and last for on / off. Swapping last and next to last with Chris Paul. Beal and Zubac take 3rd and 4th worst places.
What is working great in early small sample is Harden - Collins and Zubac or Lopez.

Pelicans:
10 of 13 5 man lineups negative.
13 of 15 quads negative.
13 of 15 trios negative.
17 of 20 pairs negative.
Most very badly.
Williamson 50 -50 positive / negative on full lineups and pairs. +28 on / off.
Almost entire benching performing badly.
Fears Jones Murphy Williamson Missi or Queen has played just 4 minutes. Probably should have been 60.

Pacers:
top 7 lineups non-positive at BRef (modestly better at nba.com)
17 to 20 most used pairs negative.
0 - 4. 4th worst net rating. 3rd worse offensive rating.

Re: LIneup trends around the league
Heat, relatively concentrated line-up management. Mixed looking results at top but strong net margin. Fastest pace, pushing close to 108.
Re: LIneup trends around the league
Bucks:
Most used pairs look pretty good
4 of 6 biggest trios are negative.
4 of 5 biggest quads are negative.
Biggest 5 man lineups are generally good but the starters are bad.
9 of 12 Trent pairs are negative. Same for Coffey. Nearly half of Portis pairs are also negative.

Fears Jones Murphy Williamson Missi starts tonight.
11 minutes at +4 / 48 min.
14 other mixed lineups are slightly negative overall. Enough to lose.

Re: LIneup trends around the league
Wizards, 95% of 20 most used pairs are negative, all -7 to much worse.
4 of 5 most used lineups negative. Only 23% of 94 lineups positive. Biggest minute positive is all bench (currently).
14 average -10 to much much worse team +/- court, including all starters. 3 bench are better, 2 moderately, 1 greatly (Vukcevic). 3 positive on BPM. Completely different 3s. But probably focus on lineups built from those 6, if not in total tank mode.
Johnson Kispert Sarr Vukcevic and somebody. Quad with George completely untried as is quad at all. 3 most used combos only use 1-2 and are all bad.

Mavs:
Russell Flagg Washington Davis Lively completely unused. When Davis is back, it should be tried and heavily.

Re: LIneup trends around the league
Sacramento Kings:
It starts with 116 lineups used in 10 games. So very very little get minutes. In fact just 2 over 16 minutes. 4 most used all negative, 3 terrible.
Guess on 5-10 best ideas and really test. And concentrate on winners and weed the worst.
Schroder LaVine DeRozan Sabonis all together is a horrible -26pts / 100p.
But there are 6 combinations that are currently positive and could be tested. If it still mattered.
10 most used pairs are all bad to awful. The involve just 5 guys.
The biggest minute combos have no positives with Schroder.
Each of Schroder, LaVine and DeRozan alone are surprisingly positive. Small sample but worth noting that heavy bench units appear to at least sometimes work. Maybe lineups around 1 or 2 could have been explored more. Or try to just learn a little. DeRozan works with the bench generally. If it still matters or give clues of how to do it with somebody else.
The report about blowing it all up will need more news to establish accuracy. But probably should be done at least partially. If there is a real plan / better design that can be executed.
What to save from the bench? What roles to give them? Monk and Ellis worth saving. Murray maybe if given a bigger role and optimistic about it. I am not that much but it hasn't been tried and probably should. Speed is not my priority for dealing with this deep mess. It probably isn't going to get much better soon. It could get worse.
Monk Ellis DeRozan Sabonis has only been tested 17 minutes this season. Ridiculous. Try it in the meantime. IT WAS +17 IN 390 MINUTES LAST SEASON! DID COACH FORGET, NOT KNOW OR NOT CARE? COME ON... It was more than twice as good as any of 7 quads that got more to much more minutes. Hardly used after All-Star break. Was still working great. Appears to be a major mistake. Only a couple bigger minute quads were better and none of the most used.
7 other derivative combinations are also positive. Could rebuild around that or break into something more new, more unknown. Important choice.
Go another direction. Brand new or insufficiently tried. Consider another Coach and / or new systems if things aren't working.
10 of 14 Monk pairs are positive, mostly at least moderately and they spent off-season bring in Schroder and trying to trade him? And then bringing in Westbrook? Monk with best career best by far BPM so far.
How badly hurt is Sabonis?
Westbrook negative with 3 of the 4 in possible internal core group. Terrible with Sabonis. OK with Monk. Moderately bad with Ellis and DeRozan.
Ellis is sliding this season on individual stats but might be better than they treat him. Monk - Ellis is +10pts / 100p and has been used less than 10 minutes per game.
Most of the deep bench are game for trade or drop to me.
Monk Ellis DeRozan Sabonis needs a wing. Murray, Clifford, whoever, even Westbrook.
Test. Even if they go for someone different, try to find the better type to fit with that group. If it matters, if they haven't completely decided to go another direction.
While DeRozan Sabonis is very bad in current dominant quad and overall, it is +10 without Schroder and LaVine in short sample and should be used more that way. It was good that way in huge minutes last season.
Not absolutely everything is rotten. Pretty close with Schroder and LaVine though. They are the first two I would be trying to move.
Unless they want to tank. Then wait til summer of those guys and maybe move the others earlier.
Monk Ellis DeRozan Murray Sabonis was +18 / 100p in 200 minutes last season. You don't break that up usually, you use it far more. There were sub-units of that which were pretty good in far far more minutes. Are they really going to find better, this time?
More than 200 different quads used in last 6 games. Not a second for Monk Ellis DeRozan Sabonis.

Re: LIneup trends around the league
Griz:
Coward got 1st start. Slow beginning but not bad.
Replaced Aldama. I'd replace Wells instead.
Assuming Ja is out, I'd try Spencer Coward Aldama Jackson Edey. And some other new stuff. 4 of these and different 1 changes.
Small Spencer Coward Aldama Jackson was +57 pts / 100p... in 14 minutes. Tiny sample, may not project, but gotta try it more. It worked in a big way. Little else is.
Big lineup, small lineup. Pick based on matchup analysis.

Re: LIneup trends around the league
Spencer Coward Aldama Jackson Edey appeared tonight but for 0 recorded minutes and no stats. A lineup transition at the FT line or between time outs or something.
Small lineup with Small not used because Small wasn't used.
22 lineups, 17 brand new. 6 positive, 16 not.
For season, 159 lineups "tried". Only 9 over 1 minute per game on average. 150 dinks for less. 5 most used all negative, top 4 all badly. Barely more than 1/3 positive is comparatively low. Lineup results way worse than last season suggests lineup selection is poor or at least not particularly enhancing. 5 most used average -14 pts / 48 min. 3 times worse than the dink average. Neither close to competitive but maybe Iisalo is a dink chaos guy over a strategic selector. Have to get better at one at least, probably both.
5 most used getting about 12 minutes per game. Don't want to expand time with those, but if they guess at a better top 5 that starts to work, you would.
Does Griz analytics (Rich Cho or anyone in front-office) recommend lineups? Listened to or not? Does Iisalo use analytics heavily or go by coaching design / instincts? Heat of the moment ideas?
BRef gives a 17% chance to make play-in. It is probably less. But not zero, yet.
