Re: Paul George and the folly of NBA stars playing for USA g
I have played a lot of pickup ball in college towns. After a player is done playing for the school, that's the only time I'd see him on the courts A lot of my friends went to UNC, and their team seems to play pickup games with other students on a semi-regular basis. I wont pretend to know of other ...

Re: Paul George and the folly of NBA stars playing for USA g
College players do not get into pickup games. I think it violates the terms of their scholarships. Making an exception -- and a very big one -- for competitive, sanctioned, USA-vs-world games, is very odd and questionable. Of course college players do get into pickup games-- let's not pretend like ...

Re: What is per 100 poss?
So his per 100 stats are a reflection of his per game stats if he were to play every minute so to speak? Don't think of it in that context. "Per 100 poss" stats are just an attempt to get rid of the influence of pace; a player that plays on an up-tempo team (like the 76ers) has more oppor...

Re: On/Off numbers for players?
It really all depends on what you're looking for. If all you want is a simple on/off comparison, you can links to those on any player's page at basketball-reference. For instance, here is the 2014 on/off page for Marc Gasol (though I think it only includes games that he played in): http://www.basket...

Re: team (not individual) rebounds
How does a 3-TO advantage more than offset a 10-rebound advantage? Going back to what J.E. mentioned about team turnovers, ESPN has the Rockets with 2 to Portland's 0. Whatever else remains, I think we can chalk up to the 10-FT disparity in favor of the Rockets artificially limiting defensive rebou...

Re: team (not individual) rebounds
Probably doesn't explain the discrepancy but remember that TS% is just 'guessing' the number of And1s on each side. Team turnovers are another thing that needs to be accounted for Actually, I think it almost completely explains the discrepancy; if you remove the And1 and technical foul attempts, th...

Re: "Success come from better data, not better analysis" D M
In his defense, that was written three years ago (i.e. before teams actually had all the data they have now).
Now that teams have the SportsVU data, it's probably slanted back in the direction towards having the right analysts who can figure out what to do with it.

Arron Afflalo, Brian Roberts, Carmelo Anthony , Dirk Nowitzki , Gerald Green, Goran Dragic, JJ Redick, Jordan Crawford, Kevin Durant , Lebron James , Manu Ginobili, Marcus Morris, Randy Foye, Ryan Anderson, Wesley Matthews. Am I correct in assuming you've got the forwards' names in bold simply to m...

Try http://nbawowy.com, I'm pretty sure it has rebounding numbers for free throws in the team section.

And mid-level players will probably see salaries go up a bit since we're now at the point where teams have to spend 90% of the cap.Crow wrote:There may be a few more huge contracts in next summer or two but probably fewer than players & agents had been expecting based on the way things used to work.

No, Josh Smith ($13 million) and Al Jefferson ($13.1 million) come in around there too.Crow wrote:Was Dwight Howard the only player to get more than $12-13 mil for next season this summer?

Re: Brad Stevens- analytic coach. The next level of applicat
Did he bring the kid with him is the question. I haven't seen anything official about it and the only thing I've seen to that effect is that Draft Express sent out a tweet that wished the kid luck in Boston (which isn't really anything to hang my hat on), but I'd be surprised if he didn't. Regardle...

How much does he really use advanced analytics and is he willing to go further? I'm going to go with "a lot," as long as this piece is even remotely accurate (and I have no reason to believe otherwise): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/-college-basketball-mens-tournament/news/20130320/dre...

Re: 2013 NBA draft prospect rankings
I've heard little talk about Erik Green... The curse of being an undersized 'tweener on a woefully bad team in a power conference who's a true senior to boot. I like him too, but I'm also inclined to be somewhat distrustful of a "shoot-first" point guard's prospects of transitioning to th...
