Espn 2005 pbp - 'Jump ball'

Post by tignas »

I am looking through play-by-play data from 2005 (I think this occurs from 2002-2005), and there seems to be two different templates for a 'jump ball' play.

I will use this game as an example:
http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/playbypla ... 1&period=0

1) Time: Start of 1st Quarter
Play: Jumpball: Erick Dampier vs. Kurt Thomas. Jason Terry gains possession.

2) Time: 0:51 3rd Quarter
Play: Josh Howard Jump Ball

Previous Play:
Time: 0:54 3rd Quarter
Play: Marquis Daniels offensive rebound.

Next Play:
Time: 0:39 3rd Quarter
Play: Kurt Thomas Bad Pass

I can't seem to figure out what play is being described in example number 2, anyone know? Thanks in advance.

My guess would be that after Marquis Daniels got the OR, the ball went to Josh Howard, who got tied up for a jump ball. This was against an unlisted Knick, who then controlled the tip. Subsequently, Kurt Thomas turned it over.

For any specific reason?

It's just a typo, someone/something wrote/added "jump" instead of "kicked".

Cool, frankly I freaked out when I've read subject of this post because I had just prepared a whole post with data about... jump balls from last 4 seasons ;-) Very nice coincidence.

(thanks, wiLQ, for the data!)

Cool stuff. But Andris Biedrins appears twice, at #39 and #40.

Thanks, not sure what happened. Someone told me he wasn't on the list, and I didn't even bother to check.
