On sticky topics...

Post by Crow »

I discovered how to do this, so I stickied 2 handfuls then backed off by half. I might unsticky some more later if it is unpopular or those threads stop getting much traffic. Feedback welcome.

Linkage and linkage to our host's historical forum seem like appropriate permanent sticky topics.

I think we'll figure out what to sticky in due time. I just enabled stickies yesterday--that's how come you just discovered that option! :D

I think the best thing to do is to only sticky long-term reference threads. Once I post my reconstructed archives of a portion of the destroyed forum, I'll post a link to them as a sticky as well.

Hello.

Still new so still be nice to me

Just a quick point. Wouldn't it make sense to preface sticky topic titles with "STICKY: "? eg. "STICKY: APBR-the historian's discussion board ".

I ask because the top three topics remain there without new posts (and, thus I presume, have been stickied).

In theory, the sticky-looking blob on the left (instead of the ... piece of paper or whatever it's supposed to be) is supposed to alert the reader that the topic is a sticky one. But it took me quite awhile to notice the blobs (I was asking myself: why are the posts out of chronological order?). ISTR that the blobs used to be yellow, which made them stand out a lot better.

Given the relatively muted signal, prefacing "STICKY" in the subject line might be a good idea.

Aha. I see it now. I still think the "STICKY: " preface would improve readability though.

While we're on the topic, what triggers the animated icon (looks like scrolling posts)? Is it an indicator of recent popularity?

There's an icon legend at the bottom of the index page.

Are you sure? This is what I see on the Board Index page:

Thanks for posting the screenshot. Turns out there are two themes for this board and only subsilver displays those icons (and not prosilver which I was viewing it in by default). I've changed over.

Weird.
