D-League xRAPM

Post by rshea »

Play-by-Play info is available for D-League games. I would be very interested in seeing xRAPM calculated for those players, but I do not know how to do the calculations myself. Would someone smarter than me be interested in computing this?

Just want to point out that before getting to the point of actually calculating RAPM (or xRAPM or any stat really), one has to put in the effort to parse the play-by-play data. It's a major effort.

What exactly needs to be parsed? Something like the points for and against for each 5 man unit between substitutions?

Exactly that. Believe me, it's not as easy as you might think, even for someone like me who has done it for several different sites.

We did this and wish we had spent the time doing something else. Given the lack of (multiple years of) data, there's not enough info to get through all of the noise.

I think a box-score metric will tell you much more about D-Leage players than an RAPM derivative, simply on the basis, as talkingpractice suggests, that there isn't enough data for RAPM.

I was just about to say that this sounded like a perfect candidate for SPR!
