I've spent the last few weeks prototyping a charting tool. As a first step, I created a tool that allows you to append the location of a rebound, assist, or foul for a given entry in an NBA game's public play by play data.
Here's the tool for the Heat-Mavs game on 11/15: http://vorped.com/bball/index.php/datae ... er-15-2013
AFAIK there doesn't exist a publicly available SportVu dataset. I'm hoping a crowdsourced tool can help create such a public dataset. With only a trivial amount of additional work, this also allows for tracking new data like "assists" on missed shots or fouled shots, enabling more robust/complete analysis than what's provided by play by play and box scores.
Let me know what you think. There are still a few rough edges, incorrect data, and missing functionality (like surfacing what other data people have logged, annoying UI issues, etc.), but hopefully with feedback this tool can be iterated upon.
And I know there are other threads talking about crowdsourced data. The scope of those threads seemed too broad, and for this project I was hoping to focus solely on location data.
Location Charting Tool - Rebounds, Assists, Fouls
Re: Location Charting Tool - Rebounds, Assists, Fouls
I don't have anything to add directly on your topic but I did look around your site and there is stuff of players and teams that I think others would be interested in. So I thought I'd say that and add the general link: http://vorped.com/bball/
