Bledsoe was also among the leaders in the early going last year.

Biggest Losers are trickier to define. If they aren't getting minutes, their loss is diminished. Some are still superstars, even with the dropoff.

LeBron doesn't miss many shots this year, but his rebounds, assists, Stl, and Blk are all down, with TO up. Durant's also rebounding less, etc.

This season Spencer Hawes is taking far fewer long and mid-range two point shots and far more threes. He has only attempted one corner three but is 18 for 36 on threes from middle and left side of the top of the key.

The Hawes and MCW pick and rolls have been pretty entertaining and Hawes is a very good passer in his own right. Here's a nice 'film review' of Hawes from philly.com: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sixe ... 10713.html

Here's a list of all players with at least .15 eWins more or less than they'd have at last year's rates.
Teams are sorted by their veterans' summed improvement over last year. Players who didn't appear last year are not considered here.

Only Tony Wroten from my list is not corroborated by WS (though PER agrees).
With few exceptions, WS improvement looks to be greater than eW improvement. Sometimes it's ~twice as great (ignore the decimal placement).

Matthews and Stuckey are pleasant surprises for their teams.

Wall has had a few big recent games but he is nowhere near his own hype for this year or career.

Stuckey leads the Pistons in scoring, even though he hasn't started a game and is 5th in minutes.
He's having his best year in TS%, eFG%, and TO%, following his worst year. Likewise his PER and WS/48.

Last year, Matthews stalled and faded in the final weeks; perhaps due to Portland's astounding lack of depth. This year he leads the league in TS%. For a one trick pony, he's been pretty good.

Given the enormous east-west disparity this season, it might be interesting to see 'biggest losers' separated by conference.

Almost no difference in the sums of these 30 worst from each side. Part of the problem is that eWins doesn't consider strength of schedule, just margin of victory.
Even totaling the entirety of 350 returning players, there's just a 4-win advantage to the West.
This doesn't count players who didn't play last year, but that's just a handful.
Rookies have mostly benefited the East. It's a mystery.

The Blazers have 4 in the top 15. Lillard has just roared into the top 3.
Cousins makes his first appearance, and it's at #5. A few monster games of late. Teammate Thomas also comes out of nowhere.

Where do you have Reggie Jackson?

Gosh, we have a very similar list/opinion on this issue this year, otherwise.

Others we have high in ours (mostly due to RAPM) that you dont have in your list are Casspi, Norris Cole lol, Terrence Jones, and Marcus Morris. One problem here is that so much of this is "hes in a way better situation for him this year" as opposed to "hes a better player this year".

It's always a list of guys who are playing better. If you get a new tool or new job description, you might be more productive. That's sort of what counts.
We should see all those you named in a top 75, I'd think.

This is at the 1/3 point of the season.
It's Kevin Love's best year by far, according to both PER and WS/48. His improvement is also relative to his worst year (2013) by both of those stats.

Post by Mike G »

Fouls and Turnovers are largely straight per-36 minutes, this year minus last year.
A negative value is an improvement in these rates.
