Rebound Rate split by Field Goals and Free Throws

Post by boooeee »

Does anybody know whether rebound rates (e.g. the type commonly tracked for four factors) is compiled separately for missed field goals and missed free throws? I'm looking for some validation of numbers I'm pulling. I have that 30.5% of missed field goals are rebounded by the offense and 13.4% of missed free throws (the ones that can be rebounded) are rebounded by the offense. This is for the 2013-14 season.

This seems consistent with this older study from 82games: http://www.82games.com/comm13.htm, but that's ten years old.

I've done some work with rebounding rates broken down by shot location, and your numbers look right. 30% for Field-Goals in general, 13% for Free-Throws.

Thanks for the check. Unfortunately, this means that the win probability numbers on my site are a bit off (had the wrong rebound percentages). Going to try to fix before the playoffs.
