Hack-a-Jordan

Post by rlee »

Because of Hack-a-Jordan, D Andre's ratio of FTAs to FGAs is 1.548. The next highest all-time among NBA players playing significant minutes is Arnie Johnson's 1.098 in 1952-53. The only other player with a ratio over 1.00 was Omer Asik (1.028 in 2010-11).

For career regular season D Jordan's ratio is 0.69 regular season and 1.29 in playoffs. Before last season it was only 0.87 in playoffs but last playoffs it ballooned to 1.94. Will it go higher?

Clips are 14-0 in games in which he has attempted 14 or more FTs

In 1966-67, Wilt Chamberlain hit .683 on FG and .441 on FT; his TS% is shown as .637; therefore we may conclude his FT shooting cut (.683-.637) .046 off of his TS%.
That .046 FT ding was the largest in history, for 46 years.

This appears to be the 3rd consecutive season DeAndre Jordan will break the record; currently his TS%-minus-eFG% is (.667-.572) .095 -- more than twice Wilt's old mark.

Last year it was .073
Clips are 14-0 in games in which he has attempted 14 or more FTs
So it seems. They're 2-0 this year, they were 8-0 last year, 4-0 before that.
He's hit .413 in those 14 games -- exactly his career FT%

Jordan is also locked in a statistical battle with Andre Drummond. They currently have the 2 worst FT% in history with more than 3 FTA per game. Both avg >7.

That could be because teams use this strategy when they are already losing.

Yeah. About 80 percent of all hacks this year have started with the hacking team behind. Obviously you have to start earlier to foul Jordan that often but I'd imagine something similar holds.
