So, I've been using play by play files to gather information that is usually not on stat websites (ie. what percent of a player's own misses he rebounds), and I am wondering if any one has the 2001-2005 PbP files. I've found several past threads with links to the downloads but unfortunately all the links are broken, the websites they link to no longer exist, or the uploaded content has expired.
Thanks.

Here, certain people have them. On the web, you can find some sites that sell PBP files for quite a bit of Money.
But they are not matchup files like you can find in the basketballvalue.com.

I've only ever found 2004-present PbP files for sale online. And they're expensive, like you said, especially considering these files were once available for free.permaximum wrote:Here, certain people have them. On the web, you can find some sites that sell PBP files for quite a bit of Money.

To be clear I am actually interested in the PbP files and not the matchup files. The matchup files I already have.

If that's what you want, I suppose hiring a coder to write a scrapper bot for you would be a cheaper option. That way, you would get error-free PBP files from nba.com going back to 1996-97 regular season.

ESPN has play-by-play data going back to the 2004-2005 season. Scraping it isn't that hard, but sanitizing it is a chore.
